Thank you for replies. Just going to try it. Left it too late today to book in, hopefully they can do it tomorrow so she can be all refreshed for back to school. Eek!

My daughter is set on having her hair cut here. Any recent recommendations? I've always cut her hair myself, now with a newborn baby I'm struggling to find time. This will be her first professional cut, she is nearly 6. I don't want her to hate it after or not feel relaxed during the cut.. Anyone recommend them?

Accident on Lordship Lane / East Dulwich Grove
GinaG3 replied to sophie_e_down's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was only the other day sitting at this junction in traffic. I hate it. The layout and safety when crossing east dulwich grove at the junction takes a lot of concentration, especially with children! You've also got to be pretty quick. I'm rarely in a car as I don't drive myself but when I am i notice much more at that crossing. Just 3 days ago some idiot did a right turn, there is no right turn there for a reason as he got honked and hooted by everyone that witnessed it. At that moment I wondered how that rule is enforced, there is no camera facing east dulwich grove, unless the traffic lights to the right have one installed. I imagine many a car does a right turn there at night when it's empty! Sympathies to the lady and wishing her a speedy recovery. -
Do you use expensive or cheap face cream?
GinaG3 replied to LouieM's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My mum swears by vaseline (for removing makeup) for keeping her glowing first and foremost - followed by the clinique and trilogy ranges that mount up in her bathroom. Paw paw is very good too. My nana has very good skin for her age too, so maybe its in the genetics? I'm only 24, but beauty flash balm works wonders for when my skin feels tired and dehydrated. For what its worth, anti ageing wise, boots no7 protect and perfect is still the UKs best selling and most recommended anti ageing serum. I remember having to hide some at work for the women that absolutely could not live without it when it first came out and was hard to come by. P.S no longer an employee - not selling tactics, haha. -
How much do you spend on kids at Christmas?
GinaG3 replied to kittysailing's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I spend ?150 on my 5 year old, this year has not seen her get much though as she's now asking for more expensive items. I always watch and grab at half price or less, take advantage of shops misprices and shop on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend. I use distinct vouchers and get cashback too, never shop anywhere else than online. Have a 3 week old baby now too, would of not bothered with anything but want my daughter to see her get some stuff and help with opening etc so picked up a few tiny bits for the future for under ?10 all in. -
Air gun shooting on Underhill Road!
GinaG3 replied to UncleBulgaria's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A similar thing happened to me in Peckham high street in broad daylight about 4 years ago. I too assumed it was a stone until a noticed the yellow plastic pellet rolling across the floor next to me. I never reported it, but actually should of. I was with my baby in a pram and consequences could of been different. As a teenager I was shot in the face, close range with a BB gun and still have a scar by my eye, it was literally millimetres away from being a different story. -
Can we talk about Christmas presents?!?
GinaG3 replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter is requesting a Windows PC for Christmas, all because of Minecraft and wanting to mod on it, which you can't on her iPad. We also already have XBOX edition!! Apparently our Apple laptops aren't good enough. She's nearly 6! The world has gone crazy, and she's crazy too if she thinks she's getting any more Minecraft or devices! This year we are buying lego Minecraft sets for her Christmas, best of both worlds, Minecraft minus the screen hogging and square eyes. -
A lot of GP surgeries do them, check with yours if you haven't already. They normally happen in their minor surgery clinics once a week or so.

I'm a country girl, I've never lived under aircraft filled skies at all. No sirens in the countryside either (well, hardly) and now I'm living on the south circular! Imagine that shell shock! I must admit, I found it difficult for about a year when I first moved here but expected it and now I'm used to it. Even the police helicopter goes up the very second I seem to get in to bed at night around 3-4 times a week, so inconsiderate! Some of the planes are loud, I'll give you that, we get them coming over so low they almost feel like they are flying in to the living room or taking the roof off! Just got to live with it I think.

steam mop? what do you use on the floor in your kitchen?
GinaG3 replied to Convex's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have a steam mop and its great. Dries in seconds so no slipping over. I'd never return to a mop and bucket or getting on my hands are knees. We have tiled kitchen, bathroom and toilet floors and then laminate hall way, it brings them all up nicely although mine was just a cheap experiment from asda! I've also cleaned the carpet with it, although the job wasn't good enough to notice a thing expect for the smell coming out of the carpet!!! -
Bit late for me as I'm moving off the route, but hopefully helps out people in the mornings. Winters are the worst, trying to get on buses when they are full and just drive past 4 in a row. This is definitely needed.

I'm stuck in this dilemma and its really hard! I was on the progesterone only pill for 2 years for Endometriosis prevention after 2 surgeries and having one child. I hated every minute of it and pulled myself off it after my cycle became erratic and it wasn't helping my pain. I'm now pregnant again and due in 5 weeks, once again looking at my options. I'm not allowed anything containing Estrogen as I'm a severe migraine sufferer, I'm also not allowed it due to the growth of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis. I tried to have a coil fitted which failed, although have been offered it under local anaesthetic at Kings and under general anaesthetic during surgery at St Thomas', I declined both as I am concerned about struggling with symptoms that I cannot stop quickly by stopping contraceptive, id have to have the coil taken out! I am highly sensitive to a lot of medications and hormone changes. I've been offered a complete abdominal hysterectomy since the age of 21 due to my health conditions and poor pain management, I'm refusing this also as I'm only 24. I feel completely stuck for choices. There should definitely be a male contraceptive out there! Why is it always down to the woman? I feel like I will be forced in to taking the pill as it is the only realistic option I have for long term contraceptive. I don't plan on any more children but could of course change my mind within the next 10-15 years. I am highly considering having my tubes tied but at the same time I feel foolish for even thinking about it, I just don't know what will happen over the rest of my reproductive years. You've just got to make sure you make the right choice for your needs and your circumstances.

From my experience they aren't worth it for preventing drafts and cold. My mum and dad have secondary glazing on their old manor house. The whole house is very cold during the winter despite the secondary glazing. I remember many nights of whistling wind through the windows and freezing draft in my bedroom. I find the back of the house warmer than the front, and it doesn't have secondary glazing but instead all new wooden frames with new single glazing. Theirs was originally installed for noise at the front as its on a main road.

Is it easy to sell a house in East Dulwich?
GinaG3 replied to lesalden's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For the last 5 years I've been bombarded with estate agent mail outs trying to get us to sell with various agents as our postcode is highly desirable. We rent from a private landlord, so I obviously can't just sell up! She has just sold though and had valuations from 7 agents before picking 2 that she felt were realistic. It went up for sale mid August, was pelted with viewings (7 a week or so) and then sold after 4 weeks on the market. I can't understand it myself. The prices are crazy, a lot of people are first time buyers and estate agents are still the work of the devil. How do people earn so much money to be able to buy as first timers in such an expensive market. Its beyond me, but its happened. -
I had problems with my breathing when I was younger, mainly wheezing and coughing. I had the asthma checks when I was about 7/8 and was monitored regularly, having readings done by a nurse etc. I was prescribed an inhaler and spacer which worked somewhat but not fully. We had a dog and 2 cats at the time. I started to notice a pattern myself in the wheezing, one time we went on a school trip to a animal education centre and it was lambing season. I really struggled that day and had a small 'attack'. I then started to notice when I was stroking the dogs or even sometimes just walking past them I would feel wheezy. I came off the inhaler for some reason or another and never was prescribed it again. I've noticed even in adulthood and during my teenage years that I am normally fine around animals but ones that shed a lot of hair can bring on wheezing and tight chest. I can stay at my mums house and I'm usually fine with her 2 Jack Russell's but won't be the same around more hairy dogs. I think cats are an issue for me as they seem to loose more thin hair than dogs. When we are 10 my brother was born, he was severely allergic to all pet and animal hair, our dog had died and we had got another one, my mum was forced to give him up to our grandparents because of the issues my brother had (skin related not breathing as I recall but very very severe), my own issues at this point did seem to become more bearable as did my brothers. My brother grew out of his allergies at around 7 and I grew out of mine at puberty, I'm now 24 and don't suffer with breathing difficulties or asthma around animals anymore but can still get puffy eyes.

The yellow building up by the plough
GinaG3 replied to dimples's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's hideous! How can anyone actually like it? Sure it's a cheery colour, I actually love that shade of yellow but not for a building like that. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Really bad choice! We're not in the Mediterranean. -
I'm due our second in 7 weeks too and am strongly considering getting one. I'm especially interested in one with removal bowl that can be put on the hob to brown in first as don't like the idea of just sloping it all in. We cook on gas so I'm uncomfortable with the thought of leaving the house with the oven on which is another bonus to using a slow cooker, I won't be so paranoid about burning the house down! I wouldn't use it for things like bolognese or any sauces but would use it for slow cooking meat, stews, casseroles. I can see it being a winter wonder and then not used during the summer months, unless just for pork joints etc that can be shredded with rolls and salads. I currently spend 1-1.5 hours a night cooking but don't want to be continuing this in the first weeks of having a baby as I would prefer to spend my time with the baby. To me it seems like a good experiment and for that reason I won't spend a fortune on one at first.

I missed the last two also. When I come to having a look for them I will send them your way. -
I think a lot of providers signals are crap at this end. Having been with O2 for 13 years and having no problems in our ED flat for 4 years something just happened one day. Spent a year with barely any signal until my contract was up and moved to Three (after thinking about EE - phew!) and couldn't be happier. Free 4G and data allowances that really are unlimited. Highly recommend them to those thinking of changing.

If anyone didn't know and is going to be affected by their closure there is a opportunity to start online shopping. I know its not some peoples kettle of fish but its very convenient. I've never tried Iceland online but they recently restarted their online delivery service after pioneering the service it many moons ago. You can now shop online and get your groceries delivered to your door, SE22 postcode is now covered by delivery. I am assuming deliveries are coming from Walworth or Catford stores as they are the biggest ones in the area to my knowledge. Might be worth a try if you use Iceland regularly.

We've just started year one and have not had a single piece of homework yet, although homework books will be handed out this week. If my daughter wants to do it thats fine by me, if she doesn't that is also fine with me. I will not be pushing her but I will gently encourage her and ask if she would like to do any together. For a 5/6/7 or older child to be asked to do homework (and get in trouble if its not done - as is the case with some schools) is completely beyond me. They spend 30+ hours a week in school, thats a full time job to you or me. We are tired after working a long week, what about them?!

They did not use the tablet system, just the usual foot on and measure system. I was furious at the fact she came home from school with blisters. I could understand and would be mad at myself if they were an 'off the shelf' pair that I had to guesstimate sizing but they weren't. Glad it was resolved with no fuss at all, considering they had been worn, albeit for 6 hours. I'm giving the blisters a bit of healing space before we try the new ones for a few hours and will this time try then inside before using them outdoors. Glad I didn't lose ?48 for their mistake. I would of been on a head office complaint email rampage! I hate spending such huge amounts of money but with proper fitting shoes it is 100% worth it, and with Clarks you pay for the peace of mind and expertise.

GinaG3 replied to TheArtfulDogger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I loved new may flower too and used them for over a year until I saw their hygiene rating.. Still hunting a good Chinese. Will resume hunt after pregnancy as I have a Chinese aversion right now! -
John Barnett on the lane. Just went in there and the manager changed them, no quibble. Her feet were measured wrong when we were sold them so she has just given us another size. Got to say I'm very impressed. Don't know why I am though, afterall clarks philosophy always has been good fitting shoes for children.
