  1. shouldn't this blatant advertisement be removed to the services section?
  2. I find this whole thing confusing. does it mean we will continue to be able to get a train from denmark hill direct to victoria or not. I can't be bothered with changing platforms
  3. seems like none of you will be satisfied until dangerous retail invaders like m&s are soundly rejected. by the same token, I think iceland should be demolished and a nice leafy green space planted and maintained by the forum bedwetters. we just can't have all these nice posh shops. we clearly want poundland or even 50pland
  4. the freeholder is or was a very elderly guy who lives miles away and who still insists on it being an offie and, what is more, with the manager living above. that is the very seriously glue like sticking point. many have been interested including guy sparkes the organic butcher who has the van on north cross road. little hope of this lovely piece of lordship retail space being occupied in the near future
  5. I gather that dame tessa rang her bike bell and went "wood woo" a bit
  6. why were you parked there for several hours. I believe there is a strict limit
  7. I note that the forum anti anything that makes east dulwich more attractive are frothing with joy at the co-op rejig. can I just say that, with respect, it is just same shite on shinier shelves. and the staff still don't know about anything.
  8. djkq. strakers road IS magically different to other roads outside the park. it is essentially a cul de sac for those going to the car park and for those servicing the cafe. your suggestion that I have lost my faculties is offensive and arrogant (par for the course from you). dogs and children can be very erratic in their movements and they need to be catered for, along with those of us no longer quite as able to leap out of the way of traffic, in what is a public park NOT a thoroughfare
  9. I was a supporter of ken livingstone's proposal for a tram from peckham to euston and beyond but I really cannot see that james barber's plan is of major benefit to many people
  10. DJKQ seems to live in a permanent state of outrage. I know not where she lives, but I doubt if she ever walks dogs over the area under discussion. (I am aware that she will now almost certainly vow that she is a regular walker/jogger/driver on strakers road.)
  11. as one of those who pressed for return of the humps, I am in complete agreement with nununoolio. I walk our two dogs every day and trying to cross strakers road is a daily trauma. cars do travel far too fast and the drivers are very ratty if you signal to them to slow down, thus making it 10 seconds longer for them to reach the cafe. there were humps on this road for years and years before they were removed when it was resurfaced. 5mph is the speed limit on this road and if motorists are affronted by this then really too too bad for them.
  12. have to drive from ed to commercial road this morning. I gather tower bridge is a no-no so am thinking of rotherhithe tunnel. any ideas, pals?
  13. probably a minute or two longer. poor you. I walk dogs there every day and, therefore probably have a better idea of the traffic... most of which travels too fast. strakers is not a through road to peckham rye at all. it is a cul de sac. think on
  14. it was a perfectly good function room already before you ripped out the bar and closed it all down, displacing the irish set dancing crowd and many others. gee thanks, father
  15. tessa was not elected here until 1992 and would therefore be unlikely to have brought a battle bus at that time. in fact I cannot recall a battle bus at all.
  16. henryb... the cycle path does not go in a different direction. it and straker road go the car park and the cafe. so, no problem for you after all
  17. the sign saying 5mph is not advisory you silly person. do you suggest that anyone whizzing along is within their rights? dimwit
  18. they had self check out when it was a somerfield toilet, but they were removed. I would have said the co-op would need more like a year to come up to even bog standard. the place is ghastly and the food not fresh enough
  19. east dulwich is a great place. you could not do better. lordship lane is an oasis of independent traders, great cafes and bars and a fantastic deli, amazing boutiques etc. do not hesitate!
  20. methinks undisputedtruth doth not live up to the name. in fact he/she is making the whole thing up. the iceland stuff earlier was a wind-up
  21. after all this, all we are getting is a bigger iceland? think small. but on a slightly larger scale. come on barber... get it thrown outa s
  22. where was this minkey/
  23. quite right. kk and the other flat-earthers have been banging on and on for long enough. I think you'll find that most east dulwich residents would love an m&s on lordship lane and so would most of the traders. qed perhaos?
  24. I received a flyer through the door this morning, protesting about council plans to develop unused tennis courts into floodlit football areas for athenlay fc. there is to be a protest meeting next week. they claim it will end life as know it and that local wildlife will not like noise and light late in to the evening. for god's sake, lighten up (as it were). most councils provide such facilities, cos this a rather dark and dreary country for long stretches of the year. unless someone can come up with sensible and reasonable objections (no doubt james barber will wait and see which way the wind blows before taking a stand) I shall support athenlay, who have a fine record of providing sport for young people, apart from the top level players who have emerged from their club.
  25. walking dogs in the park today and small wooded area taped off with police everywhere. apparently a body was found by a dog walker earlier today. we all wondered if it was elderly gentleman missing for a few days
