  1. jmes barber has already posted that old coaches have been dumped all over eest dulwich. we have one at the end of scutari road. been there for weeks. council has stuck a notice on the windscreen. much good it will do. they must come and tow these eyesores away.
  2. I hear the social services offices next to the bookshop are going to be sold for retail very soon. dunno what it will be but prob a few posh eateries.
  3. we are with lloyds. I sincerely hope they don't close. that would leave barclays as the only bank left in our thriving little high street. I have historical issues with barclays and would hate them to be only one left standing.
  4. drivers do not have right of way over pedestrians. drivers must OBVIOUSLY give way to those on foot. no brainer
  5. I agree that blair is a tosser and hypocrite, but could never be accused of socialism. more's the pity
  6. how very tiresome you are neil\dani. why would anyone want to make eye or any sort of contact with you both? please move.

    milk problem

we have had cartons of milk and cream disappear from our doorstep many days recently. we have now discovered that a fox is the rascally culprit. we want to buy a hinged lidded container for the milkman to leave our goods in. does anyone know where such an item can be bought. please don't suggest making one. I am decorative rather than functional.
  8. I was coming home from LB at around 6pm a couple of weeks ago. the train was about to leave and was rammed with people. after a minute or so, a very charming woman stood up and offered me her seat. I thanked profusely but said I was OK. I never realised that I looked that old! by the time we got through peckham rye, I wished I had taken her kind offer!
  9. slight diversion... is nunhead graveyard open again? we love taking our doggies there.
  10. now appearing in ED shops are lovely, but would have been so much better if they had not omitted the excellent bookshop in dulwich village.
  11. our neighbour's alarm used to go off for hours on end. eventually the council came and disabled it and stuck a notice through their door. it has not happened since.
  12. recycling facility in car park at peckham rye park
  13. sign on gates says storm damage. no idea if trees are down or if it is flooded. that path along from the main gate turns into a lake quite often.
  14. and may the best of this year be the worst of next.
  15. aircraft noise every day from around 4am. no better or worse than it has been for years. as a chronic insomniac, I can be really definite about it.
  16. new hairdresser up and running where the art gallery was on north x road. now it seem yet another hairdresser is to open where the mother and baby shop was next door but one. this looks like commercial foolishness as there is already a salon just up the road... and loads more round the corner on lordship lane.
  17. sue. I was responding to daver and penguin. sorry if you got inadvertantly got roped in. I merely do not want the shop to go, or any other popular shop in ed for that matter.
  18. it is a family row. don't know about you, but most on here do not want to lose chris' very long established shop. you seem not very bothered about that.
  19. many thanks pengy for your brief lecture on the theory and practice of retail (boys an girls book of high street economics 1953). the point here is most of think that losing chris' shop is a bad thing and we wonder why the family wishes to tear itself apart
  20. is the juice bar next door, occupied by chris' firm, not able to become a greengrocer. of course, the juice bar may be more profitable than the veg
  21. chris' dad (?) fred was running it when we moved ed in 1988. he had been there since the arc dropped him off, so it must be the oldest established business in town. I do hope they are not being forced out. I always thought they ownded the freehold, but obviously not. this could be one for james barber to look into for us.
  22. these things never mention the real lonmg-established giants of lordship lane, the ones nearer goose green
  23. what is beef rendang. is it thai, indonesian or what. dunno, but I suddenly fancy it
  24. hahah! what a wonderful and bizarre contribution to the mundanity of our everyday lives. the young lady is apparently "on the injection". what can this mean, except that one injection at least has been effective. surely james barber is the man to sort this out.
  25. it is all a huge hassle, but perhaps if james had collected the right info in the first place before spreading genuine alarm and outrage we would not have anything like as much wasted fury. 3 mini-closures a day is about the same as they had already pinched. this just makes their greedy intrusion legal and screw the tax-payers. in the meantime james, check things out more thoroughly.
