Anyone used DIY Kitchens (internet kitchen company)?
Shankley replied to Paulo's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We used them. We had a painted finish so we wont get the same problems Nicky suffered. To be fair, most carcasses, back panels are the same no matter where you buy it. We're very pleased with ours. We went for the Luca kitchen ( i think that is what it was called) with a painted matt finish (lamp room grey)with a whilte island and if you marry it up with a quality Korian type worktop, it looks as good as my neighbours new kitchen who paid about 4 times as much via a showroom in East London. You are responsible for all the measuring and planning though so take extra care! Delivery was flexible (we managed to put off the delivery a couple of times as we fell behind with the works. We did however receive a few damaged items so make sure you check everything carefully asap. Overall - happy with the service and quality of the units. -
We've just had velfac installed in our property (clearly from the pics you can see we are only part way through the works!) and I have to say they are fantastic. We went for scandanavian pine internally which looks very modern and clean.

We went north and moved to Hitchin Train time is approx 30 mins although 2 fast trains and hour during the rush take just 22 mins We sold our 2 bed vic Terrace and bought a 4 bed detached with garage and large garden less than 5 mins walk from pretty town centre and train station for only ?50k more. 3 outstanding primary schools within a 10 mins walk and a really good all girls secondary school within 1/2 mile. We thought we would miss The Lane but in reality with 2 young kids we spent less and less time down there. Now we spend our time with the kids in the garden (swings, trampoline etc) and enjoying having so much space. Oh, and we have a Waitrose ;-)

Subsidence and content insurance in East Dulwich
Shankley replied to indiej25's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The insurer providing The buildings insurance will be able to insure the contents too -
It was exactly in that location. Wife had cycled through park and then down college road, left at roundabout intending to go down Burbidge. Driver came straight out of Gallery road into my wife. Thanks for the advice :)

The insurer will have to deal with the third party claim whatever. That's why third party cover is the minimum legal requirement, to protect innocent third parties. The insurer may have a recourse in certain circumstances to claim back anything they pay as settlement from the policyholder but that is of no concern to me.

Thank you carrie. And Loz - part of the contract or not- if they are at fault- which they are - their insurer would have to satisfy the innocent parties claim.

My wife was knocked off her bike this morning in the village by a car. Broken wrist, concussion and cuts and bruises but thankfully not worse. Can anybody suggest a good local solicitor to use to deal with our injury claim? Not sure about using one of these dodgy looking companies off the tele. I understand that liability is not an issue and the driver admitted liability to the police. Thank you!

Dulwich Infants foundation admissions
Shankley replied to aprilfool's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My mistake. When I spoke to them before deciding where to apply the school told me that they were having an extension built and was due to be completed in time for sept 2012 intake which I thought would result in increasing their future intakes from 90 to 120 and not just this year. -

It's permanent i think. They've had an extension built. We've got a place after being 20 something on the waiting list! -
Cheers Fuschia. i was looking at page 3 of the Prospectus. it doesn't actually say 2012 (just about Sept and Jan intakes and it being in the year of their 5th birthday - which would be 2012 for our daughter) so i think it must be out of date. :)

My daughter has secured a place at Heber. She is 4 next month and i assumed she'd be starting in September. However i looked at their website (which isnt very good as most of the links say "content coming soon") and it says that children born between September and February start in Sept, the rest start in January 2012 (the Academic year in which they turn 5) I tried calling the school to check but just got the engaged tone. Have i got it wrong? Its a good job i haven't handed in notice at the nursery!

I heard it was a hit and run Did you see the helicopter land on the junction? Amazing

Unfortunately I still have about ?190k to pay off! One of the things I worry about is going onto a low interest tracker and then in 12 months time interest rates are still increasing and I decide that I need to fix, and the fixed deals are worse than they are now (even tho they are worse now than they have ever been whilst I've been paying a mortgage which is 10 years) What gripes is fixing now when I know the tracker rates are much lower and more of my money is actually paying the loan off rather than interest
