former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
colville09 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh yes, that terrible 'Labour recession' causing a subprime mortgage crisis in the US, bringing down Lehman brothers and causing the worst financial crisis since the thirties. Wow, I didn't realise the Uk Labour Party were solely to blame. -
Thanks for stealing our hanging baskets!

If it makes you less bothered about not chatting, if person had a trowel about their person it was probably us adding stuff rather than subtracting. The plant stealer does not go in for subtle things like garden tools and just seems to yank up newly planted stuff if it looks any good and the phantom flower picker just rips the flower stems off. I think I spotted her once and she just muttered about 'just taking a cutting for my garden' as she tore away the plant. -

Hi ianr, the two boxes at the junction of Oglander and Grove Vale were funded by the Greener, Cleaner, Safer scheme by Southwark about four years ago. In return myself and another neighbour signed a contract with the council to look after them for three years. Four years on we are still watering, replacing plants that get stolen, clearing up the litter and booze bottles dumped in them and cleaning off the tagging when it happens. Can be depressing sometimes but It's worth it though and other neighbours join in the watering. People seem to like them and it was partly to slow down the fast cycle lads riding across the island and rounding the corner mowing down little old ladies... So it's traffic calming as well as a pollution barrier. PM me if you want more detail. Oh, and then there is the phantom flower picker who drives me a little crazy too. -
Local councillors who never respond

Oh James, please don't go in for the anti Labour slightly personal directed tone, it detracts from your wonderful reputation. -

I totally agree it's very depressing when people don't vote. We are lucky to have a form of democracy and we have candidates from more than one party that stand in local elections. I don't think saying 'well that particular party always wins' is any excuse, we don't live in a one party state. With regard to lack of response to emails, have you thought your emails may not be getting through. Do you have evidence they reached the councillor and were opened. Why not find out when the councillors are doing their surgeries, make an appointment and actually see them face to face (or even more basic but revolutionary... write them a formal letter and send it registered). -

Actually James McAsh - Labour Councillor for Goose Green ward has been posting on the Forum regularly... -
I pass that building often and I have always thought it was early cinema.

Anyone missing an adult ginger cat, yellow collar with small bell. Spotted in Oglander garden backing onto Ondine. I thought he was a neighbours cat but seeing it close up looks very thin with bad eye infection. If stray may have been missing a while because I think I have seen it around for a while.

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?

Dear James, Victoria and Charlie - thanks for saying hello on The Forum. As you say big shoes to fill but having meet you when you were all campaigning I'm very impressed with the energy and commitment so good luck as you begin your new roles. -
Parking, bike racks and yellow lines poll
colville09 replied to Southwark WEP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dear Claire, I appreciate the points you have made. Please be assured I really admire people who stand for election to become councillors. Councillors by their hard work on behalf of their communities are our great unsung heroes. It does not matter what political stance they come from, a good councillor is a lifeline for many people through their case work for individuals facing problems as well as any wider work they do in making the area in which they live a better place. Maybe the forum could consider a section where all the candidates could post their leaflets together although I'm not sure what the position would be in regard to The Representation of the People Act which governs electoral communications. Again, good luck with pounding the streets. -
Parking, bike racks and yellow lines poll
colville09 replied to Southwark WEP's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh dear, not a good start to your campaign Claire posting a poll on a fake FB page that is passing itself off as being this forum. If you are so in tune with East Dulwich I can't see how you have missed all the Admins warnings about this. Also if you had been following the forum you would have seen the problems that another candidate has experienced by trying to use a poll. Not totally sure if it is professional or in the spirit of the forum to attach your campaign leaflet either feels a bit, umm... naive. Good luck with your door knocking. -
Do you want Controlled Parking YES or NO
colville09 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James, wayne10 was reposting my earlier post and only added his comment of 'good point'. You passed over and ignored my original post and certainly never apologised. Actually you are doing it again by apologising for it not being simple to unsubscribe. The important point was you harvested and passed on my email without my permission on that occasion. With respect why can't you see that -

The fact that the James and the Lib Dems are obviously collecting data to use politically under the guise of an innocent parking survey does not surprise me one bit. A few years ago after emailing him just once I started getting emails from both the London Lib Dems and the national party. When I contacted them and said I had never subscribed or asked to join their email list and the only way they could have it is if James had passed it to them without my permission they said well I must have signed a petition at some point. I deliberately never give my email in anything I sign but it does show their attitude that they regard such things are fair game. It made me question their ethics and any respect I had for them. To add insult to injury I found I could not unsubscribe from their wretched emails and only managed too after contacting their Press Office.I do respect James and his commitment and hard work to our area but this data collecting exercise is at best Ill judged. -

Sorry I just read this post and got very disappointed. I thought it was a juicy post about a very large, very cross bag lady type called Radley, getting revenge on the cruel world but it turned out to be a naff post about a naff bit of toot. Shame

So sorry to hear that George is no longer with us. Every so often there is a super cat and he was one and very loved. Thanks to his family for looking after him so well and the kind people who found him.

Actually Scruffy Mummy most abuse is by family members not by charming strangers.

I only had a brief contact with the Rev but he obviously was loved by his parishioners. He also seemed to add much to our ED community. Maybe people should reflect more on the motives, exploitation of distress and morality of The Daily Mail before they start getting hysterical. There is something very sick about that rag and its sad readers.

Although Vanguard Court isn't East dulwich central it is an amazing collection of artists and craft studios. There is a planning request in for the row of low-lying studios to be demolished and replaced with part work, part residential buildings. This plan will drive drive out the craftspeople and mean the loss of the yard as the creative community as it stands as a place for creative Makers.(Vanguard court is one of the few remaining spaces for creative makers - as opposed to fine artists.)I wonder if any Forumites might be in a position to comment, as local residents knowing the activities carried out in the yard, and aware of the positive impact and the valuable contribution the craftspeople make to the community, as artists, craftsmen, makers, employers, trainers, educators. I have a reminder everyday with a wonderful stained glass front door made in Vanguard Court! Please if you can, write with your objections to: [email protected]. - The end date for objections is July 5th.

the vale pub - changes afoot
colville09 replied to chrisharvey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the Dulwich Ukelele Club would be great too (I'm a big fan) but I meant sessions where us lesser mortals can bring our ukes along and jam / learn / strum together. Could fill up an empty time and be great fun (well at least for the players who will need a few drinks to get them going). -

What about a ukulele club? -
I'm so sorry for the poor dog and the people involved. From the various posts, this 'Blue' dog has been hurt other dogs and the stupid owner is totally responsible. The dogs are either out of control or being encouraged to do this. I don't think you can be certain that someone or a child going to the aid of another dog being savaged will not get seriously hurt. For the sake of all park users, they should be identified. There must be a pattern to the times when these dogs are let loose there. If people pool this knowledge and log the events then at least the RSPCA / park wardens have something to go on.

Whatever position you take about how it could be improved, all of us hold the idea that a National Health Service is precious. Otherwise we will become America where profit dictates if you get any healthcare at all. I don?t want to see it sold off or to line the pockets of others. Unless politicians of whatever stripe realise that people really care they will continue to disregard any sensible views or discussion of common good. Unless they know their careers are in danger and the anger that we all feel is visible, they will spin and twist for whatever agenda they have. We are all helping this happen by staying quiet. My question is how do we make this anger apparent? There may be days of protest but these can be ?spun? as being ?trade union activity? and can be managed news wise. If you take part, you can give your lungs a good workout but won?t get them quaking. Agent provocateurs easily hijack direct action. My idea of wearing something red on Fridays sounds very sad and yes, the government is still standing, the red buses are still running after a week but use your imagination ? what if it grew to epic proportions? Went viral? Could be fun even for beautiful/handsome red heads, so email your mates, lets go viral and see how far it gets.

I?m getting fed up with politicians playing football with the NHS for their own agendas. I suspect they are more than earning their wedge from private companies poised to get into a lucrative market. Be they mad or bad, I feel its time to show my feelings. The question is how? I could march and yell but I wanted a tiny idea with imagination.I had this idea, on Fridays, I?ll wear something red and what if it went viral and the politicians could see the entire population taking this flash action together. Lets not be invisible any more ? get out that red scarf and strut your stuff.
