  1. This whole chain store / local business thing makes me laugh. There used to be loads of butchers and grocers in the area, until the yuppies cheered the new Sainsbury's opening on Dog Kennel Hill, and couldn't wait to get up there in the jeeps.... Sure enough, all the little businesses went closed up shop due to no custom...... Years later, things have changed, and a little family business is suddenly trendy again, and people can't wait to queue outside the organic butchers! Funny how times change, and attitudes change with them.
  2. Mate it's fat and blood... It is so wrong! :-S
  3. Oh, fair enough :-$
  4. As long as Sainsburys don't start doing a "Taste the difference" range! :-$
  5. I don't like it either, The Herne would be my choice if I was around there.
  6. Thomas Moore Hall???
  7. I think I have to go for Blue Brick. Used to be The Uplands before it was called the Uplands (it was that bit more greasy spoonish). Also quite like the ED Cafe (next to Apollo Video).

Money wasters maybe..... To be fair, I can't actually aford to buy anything in any area, despite the fact that myself and other half both have reasonably good jobs... It's scary down here looking up at the ladder! :-S Oh well, I'll continue to spend my money on surfing the net, and drowning my sorrows :)-D
  9. I'm so glad someone mentioned Dulwich Hamlet! It's not the biggest or best place in the world, but it's definitely worth a look if you haven't tried. The gym is smallish, but well equipped, and friendly! It's not full of weight lifting freaks who just want to intimidate the slightly less fit amongst us... Squash courts are good too.
  10. There have been rumours about an M&S coming to Dulwich for YEARS!!!! Thing is, would it really be worth it for them? They would only realisticly be able to put an M&S food store there, and they really tend to put those in places where there is a large workforce (lots of offices around), so they can flog loads of sandwiches. Someone earlier mentioned that Walworth Road has one... This is because there are loads of Southwark council buildings around there, and they all go there. I work for Greenwich, based in Woolwich (for my sins), and it's exactly the same. I don't think Lordship Lane would be what they're looking for at all...... Of course I could be wrong.

That's reassuring being that I've got an op there in a couple of weeks!!!! I've never had any big complaints in the past though, other than some serious arguements with the nutter who arranges the surgery appointments!
  12. I'd like to see someone who was born in or around the area affording to buy themselves a house, or even a flat in their own area.... However, this would seem unlikely, so we'll all move up to Sydenham to make room for those from leafy surrey ;o)
  13. I tend to start in the CPT, then forget to leave...... Ah Mockney, how well I remember that evening in The Vile.... Pretty sure none of us have gone back since, and I used to regularly get rid of ?100 a night in there (which I couldn't afford!!!)! Think everyone other than the owner is a winner, so all is good ;o) "CrystalClear" suggested... CPT Magda Franklins Liquorice Inside 72 Bishop Cherry (they do an ?11 cocktail...) EDT I really don't like Liquorice, so would be tempted to walk past that one. On the subject of the full on SE22 crawl, pubs like The Hearne and The Clockhouse are worth it, but The Castle and The Plough are really not worth the extra walk (would leave The Uplands out too). Can we really call it a "PUB" crawl anymore though, I mean how many PUBS are left on Lordship Lane?
  14. Hey, I started the Ganapatti fan club! ;o) To be fair, it's not East Dulwich, but it would get my vote if it was in here.
  15. That's the scary thing, if it is a joke, it's so well observed it's scary! I know someone a bit like that (not as bad), and have had to really bite my tongue on more than one occasion when they've been congratulating themselves on paying so little to their Polish hired help. Sickening!
  16. I think Peckham cinema is pretty good, and the area isn't that bad at all!
  17. They're really friendly, nice people... I've been about 4 times in about 18 months, and each time has been just as good, so it wasn't a fluke (tu)
  18. They have 7 a side leagues there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I think you just turn up and register a team. I don't know much more than that, as I am unfit, and enjoy drinking too much, but friends of mine play up there.:)-D
  19. I have to go with Tandoori Nights. HOWEVER, if you like Indian, but fancy trying something a bit more authentic and fresh, I very strongly recommend Ganapati on the corner of Bellenden Road and Holly Grove (posh Peckham)! It is a far far far better eating out experience than anything on Lordship Lane! http://www.london-eating.co.uk/6830.htm
  20. Think that hairdressing suppliers is further up, on the corner of Crystal Palace, and Silverster Road.
  21. Overpriced cocktail???

The sea cow on lordship lane is a > right rip off, wouldnt catch me paying those > prices for a bit of fried cod! That's Underhill Road (between Crystal Palace and Barry)... And yes it is a great fish & Chip shop!
  23. For those of you who don't know it, flickr is a photo site. A few of us have an East Dulwich group on there where we post pics of the local area. All are free to join and add their pics, or just look at the ones on there. Sorry if someone else has already posted about this.
  24. Indeed!!! And they often throw in an extra bit of chicken as well. Trying the new burger place tonight, looking forward to it!
  25. They are known as The Beards, and they do tend to win most of the time! CPT Quiz is hit and miss. It's 3 rounds of 20, the first of which is always "Pot Luck", then 2 rounds on various subjects. Thing is, quite often you think you'll do well on the film round, until you realise that it's pre 1950's films!!! That said, The CPT is my regular haunt, so should stick up for them really! ;o) Magdalla is a good laugh.
