  1. Okay then, it wasn't in the 80's though. Think I know the area reasonably well, I was just trying to make light of things.

Everyone got excited when 7-11 opened and we used to buy slurpies after school, and a shop actually stayed open till 11pm!!!!!!! ;o) The corner of Northcross and Archdale was a school!!!!!! (A nice one too, still think that's a shame). The Curry Cabin smelled disgusting (it's lovely now!). There was a toy vending machine outside the Newsagents opposite The Woolwich, which had a big plastic parrot in it, that spoke to passers by! There was no market on Northcross, but the fish van was still there (for the record, I do think that market is a waste of space, and I hate the idea of pedestrianising, but that's just me). There were a massive amount of yuppies in the 80's, and I imagine that had a forum like this existed back then, there would have been negative feelings there too..... Nothing has really changed, I swear!!!

Once or twice. Lived in Liverpool for 5 years, and knew a lot of Welsh people who spent a lot of time telling me how sh!t England was, and yet they wouldn't leave.... Go figure :-S To be fair, Snowdonia is lovely, but I've been to a couple of little villages where I was made to feel really really uncomfortable by the scary locals in the pub who stand around you and start speaking in Welsh! Good on you for finding a better life! ;-)
  4. Er, have you got any idea how much you can pay to live in Brixton these days!?!?!?
  5. Twas a nice evening indeed, and nice to meet you. Mike, did you say that the library reading group is doing A short History of tractors in the Ukraine for March? If so, me and the missus might come along, as we both read it on holiday recently, and it's a great laugh, and quite educational too!
  6. Communities only get together on online forums these days!!! ;-)
  7. I'm with dulwichmum when it comes to Wales, it just makes you realise how lucky you are... About Dulwich, I'm from the area (born in Dulwich Hospital 28 years ago), and my parents and sister still live there. I live up in Sydenham, now, because my other half and I get a much bigger / nicer flat for our rent money than we would down in ED. I do feel sad that we won't ever be able to afford to buy a place in ED, but at the end of the day, you can't blame the people that have bought the houses, good on them I say. It may have happened slightly earlier in ED, but make no mistake, the prices in Sydenham, Forest Hill and Peckham are all heading the same way! I do still love Dulwich though, and regularly come down for drinks. I'm a CPT man generally, but have been seen in other places. Must admit I'm not too big a fan of the trendy "bars", but a lot of people are, so good luck to the owners! I do wish Inside 72 was a bit bigger, because they have great music and atmosphere! I can understand people from the area feeling bitter cos they can't get a house there, I'm in the same boat. But that's life, and it's far too short to be bitter! Having said all that, my sister told me those new houses where the old barracks used to be are going for between 4 and 5 hundred grand!!!! I thought they were going to be "affordable" housing..... Scary! :-S
  8. His sister owns the Black Cherry I think.
  9. I have to keep my source anonymous I'm afraid. You might want to try Northcross Road though! ;-)
  10. I'll pop down, and will stick with the red theme.
  11. Get off the fence mate! ;-) I know what you're saying, but you can't blame the shop owners, when they've got people willing to spend the money. I know the owner of one such shop in the area (I won't say which) and she actually said to me that her client group were a bunch of very bored women with so much money they could afford to spend stupid amounts on a cushion!
  12. Good luck with your new business, I'm sure it'll do well. Wasn't trying to start trouble Mr Administrator, just worries me when freedom of speech becomes curtailed (even if it is a bit off topic). Not suggesting that you're the thought police or anything ;-)
  13. Mr Administrator, this is meant to be a public forum. You're very quick to edit and and cut what people say!
  14. And worth booking a table, as it's quite popular!
  15. I know Cobbs Corner, and it's fugly! However, The roundabout in Dulwich is nice, it has goose green next to it, and the EDT on the corner... I don't know, it just looks nice. Don't want to sound selfish, but I don't drive, and really couldn't care a less if people feel the roundabout slows their journey by a couple of minutes.

I've mentioned it before on this forum, and I swear I'm not taking commision from them, but it sounds exactly what you're looking for!!!
  17. Just for the record, I like the roundabout, and would be gutted to see it go.
  18. Is Canada really so bad, why are you all leaving??? ;-)
  19. Well then Mockney, if you're spartacus, I'll be Brian ;-) I'm about 75% likely to be there.......
  20. "the Taba, it's Chicken or lamb cooked with fresh ginger, garlic and ground spices in a medium sauce". Never heard of it, but it sounds tastey!!!!
  21. Have a look. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,259
  22. I think that's already been discussed somewhere....
  23. Sorry, missed this thread when I was away, but feel I have to comment. Yilmaz has gone from being a great kebab shop, to being foul! That said, I was in Australia recently, and having tried about 3 kebabs there, I was longing for Yilmaz or Stab n'wine. Also, used to live in Liverpool, and can confirm that they know nothing about kebabs up north!
  24. I think it sounds good, and it doesn't need to be a rival forum, there's plenty of room on the world wide web for everyone! You're suggesting some good ideas (like the swap/recycle idea), just offer things that this forum isn't, and everyone's happy :)-D
  25. Southwark are a 3 star council (somehow!!!), so they have got plenty of money!!!
