Anstey Road is a nice spot but worth remembering that its very much Peckham, rather than East Dulwich (this isn't a bad thing). In terms of how busy the road is...the worst bit is the northern end between McDermott Road and Nigel Road as its on the rat run path through posh Peckham...to see it at its worst head down there during the evening rush hour...its not terrible but worth checking out

London Overground line extension timetable
benevetts replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
To the point about services being revised back to where VIC connections were before the Thameslink work. The thing that blindsided all our councillors was the withdrawal of Sunday services on the South Eastern line. Sadly they were all (with the exception of Renata Hamvas) also useless in terms of adding or coordinating support for the recent South Eastern or Thameslink consultations. -
London Overground line extension timetable
benevetts replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the ELL extension is generally a good thing but the reduction in Victoria connections is a major concern, especially since the evening/weekend services were reinstated to Blackfriars at the beginning of the summer. We do need all our elected representatives (regardless of their political affiliation) to push for late night and sunday victoria services as part of the revised Southeastern franchise. -
based on experience of local authorities painting anything, i reckon that painting it will mean the surface will be uneven, flaking and chipped within days of completion....and then its ruined forever. That lower end of rye lane looks scrappy enough already and lets face it, having spent a fortune on putting down smart paving they insist on repairing the cracks where the paving has become loose (due to the buses curbing it) with a bit of badly laid tarmac rather than actually fixing it properly, which might take all of 30 mins longer to complete.

I use the paths every day, have done for five years and they work fine. You could paint the one on rye lane in bright pink and you would still have pedestrians walking across it, popping out from behind buses etc because of where it is. Surrey Canal path works fine too. Don't mean to sound like a hippy but we just all need to get along, cyclists need to ride defensively, as they are the one's most likely to cause damage to others. They should also not ride with headphones, not just because its blooming stupid but also because then they can hear and sense others around then more easily.

Good to see this being debated. Good to see you getting engaged on this James - can we have your support on the thameslink consulation too..perhaps a bit of pressure on officers from the LD side?

Changing Estate Agents... Does it make a difference?
benevetts replied to Salsie's topic in The Lounge
If they are getting them through the door then they are probably doing their job and, as a recent buyer, Haart were one of the agents I was most impressed by. Not sure if this is relevant to you but one thing that can help, especially with flats, is doing a declutter and moving some stuff into storage for a while to help emphasise the sense of space. -
Please write to your councillors and get them to start putting pressure on the cabinet. According to a posting from Renata on the South East London forum (can't send link on this forum), Barrie Hargrove (Cabinet member for transport) hasn't yet filed the Southwark response so the more pressure we put on members the better, not least because with three (or four if you include Elephant and the knock on impact on connections across the borough) stations directly impacted by this, the council should be leading from the front on this.

So it rumbles on....the 'Save Wimbledon Loop' campaign is gaining pace, with an article appearing in last nights Evening Standard http://www.standard.co.uk/news/fate-of-thameslink-service-connecting-south-and-central-london-to-be-decided-in-weeks-7972656.html . Great to see Sutton speaking out in support, wouldn't it be terrific if our council could do the same? Those who have the time and inclination, please do write a letter to the paper in response pointing out the fact that this consultation has effectively put South East London residents in competition with those in the South West, the demand for the services and the promises that were made at the beginning of all the reconstruction work for through London services on the Catford loop line (Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Nunhead etc.)

Hi Renata Is there a joined up approach by Southwark, Lewisham and Bromley councils on this - noting that as statutory consultees they will have far greater weight than the general public - even though this is of course important. Bee good know know progress from a Southwark POV so far too Thanks Ben

Oh for goodness sake...those that want to try and help protect our through London services please respond to the consultation. I note that there are a number of questions so it might be better if everyone wrote that they were responding to "Q.18 What services that run via Elephant & Castle do respondents think should run via the Thameslink core route?" and then provide your response, as there are a huge number of questions that are irrelevant. It would be also worthwhile informing your councillors that you are doing this so that they can take up the cause at council level (since LB Southwark is a statutory consultee). The email address to send it to is here: [email protected] If you want to get involved in broader campaigning about rail services in the area, in particular the South London Line, then check out the Southwark Rail Users Group http://www.bellenden.net/srug

There will be four trains an hour on the ELL running through platform 1 and 2 at Peckham Rye (thats twice the number of SLL services), where people can change to get the London Bridge services (which will run up from East Dulwich station). If you get on a Dartford service you will continue to have to change from platform 3 to 2 in the same way as you have to currently. 2019 is quite a long way away no? So lets all work together to protect those services which we can. For others (as I'm sure UDT has seen this) this is worth a look - you'll see that there is a planned uplift to East Dulwich services from 2015 - so its not all bad news.

Thanks Renata for bringing this to people's attention. Denmark Hill is not losing its Victoria connection nor its Blackfriars connection. What is at risk is through connections to St Pancras and beyond. This is why people need to fill out the consultation documents, as its unlikely that they will take evidence based on the debate here. The South London Line debate is finished I'm afraid and the Secretary of State has ruled on it (and I'm not suggesting this is right or wrong). If its any consolation passengers from Denmark Hill will be able to change at Peckham Rye for a connection to London Bridge (which is very frequent and requires no change in platform). I would urge everyone to fill out the consultation form - the better organised group of users will win this and lets remember that there is the precedent that the Wimbledon loop line has had a through London connection for many years.

This might be somewhat off-topic for the East Dulwich forum but on the Queen's Road issue, i believe this is a case of not being able to do all the station improvements and also accommodate the narrow doorways, as beautiful as they are. There is a big programme of works to QRP station which will see a new forecourt on the other side of the bridge, new ticket office and (I hope but not as far as I know confirmed) a lift. While its a same to lose them, I would argue that the loss of the details (if this is indeed true) is probably for the greater good. Perhaps if people are interested in this they could ask the council to remove the brickwork and reinstate it somewhere else within the newly refurbished station.

Planter stolen from front garden Henslowe Road

Hear, hear..fabulous job..it was a great atmosphere up there. I loved the contrast on the walk up to...blasting ragga tunes on the wind at the bottom and a choir at the top...makes where we live what it is.

Richard Jennings Bramly fitted five custom made wardrobes/cupboards for us at our flat in Ivydale Road. I would highly recommend him and also plan to use him again in our new house once we've saved up enough money. Very tidy worker, does most of the work in his workshop so the fitting is not disruptive - plus also listens to Radio 4 while he works - which was nice.
