  1. Has anyone posting actually been on an e scooter? I expect they are great fun, as well as the personal mobility. It's a bit like the line in 'Trainspotting' when Renton explains why he takes heroin. Because of the wonderful hit. Not that I have done or recommend either. Just that they are here to stay and many want them and like them. Not sure how comparable the war in drugs and the war on scooters are though!
  2. Hope you aren't arguing with me. The law refers to unnecessary idling. I expect enforcement has been so low, essentially you only get fined after refusing to turn your engine off, there is no case law to determine what is 'necessary' idling. Cops that I have challenged tell me that they need the engine on for their equipment. Sounded nonsense to me.
  3. Not really sure of your point. It is the vehicles that are sitting their stationary chugging away with no obvious reason for leaving their engine on we have issues about
  4. Funny, half the posts are positive and half are trying to find a hitch. My only issue is that in the last week I've caught the 63 three times, but as yet have not got an electric one. By law buses have to he accessible.
  5. Ted, sorry but this is racism. Casual racism where it is not the intention to offend or the person didn't realise. Even the most right on person has probably been guilty of this. Sally has explained the legal basis.
  6. Apols for the facetious comment but where was John Prescott when you needed him. Classic when he threw that punch at the protester and the classic where Blair talks about sacking him, and Blair's driver and personal security both rush to Pressers support
  7. The Lib Dems and strippers. Thread has now got a lot more exciting. ...
  8. Government pass the buck to local authorities to enforce yet the powers are pretty pathetic. Occasionally some, like Westminster, will do a campaign but a lot of effort for little reward. Turning off your engine is a no brainer so wonder why so many find it so difficult. Some will even turn off stop start. I've only used it on hire cars, its a bit wierd but you get used to it in a day or so
  9. Trouble is this is a bit of a bubble. Everyone will post indignation, yet loads of people do sit their idling. I've given up asking them to switch their engines off, few do. My fave was the police officers, I've seen two on a car having a takeaway with the engine running. Four with the doors open chatting. Reminding them that it is illegal and that the police have powers to take action just got strange looks. So I wrote to the senior copper responsible for environmental issues and got no reply So my question is rather than moan,as I have just done, what to do about it? Some schools have good messaging for example. Enforcement by councils us limited and the police nonexistent. TfL had a poster and advertising campaign Ten years ago but few remember it
  10. They've got a bring (donation) as and take (those in need)coat stall near Peckham library
  11. Wow, you do have issues. Returning to the original subject I suspect: Some don't care about rules Some don't know that it isn't allowed Some cycle on pavements as the roads are dangerous Some consider the roads are dangerous, or don't have the confidence Some use this for convenience eg a one way street For most it won't be part of any campaign against cars. As the changes to the Highway Code increase the awareness that cyclists, as road users, have the same rights as motorised transport then more will feel confident to cycle on the road.
  12. Good heavens. There is plenty to discuss on cyclists and pavement riding. Yet you seem to have hijacked this thread with your blanket views on cyclists and your issues about the LTNs. Traffic calmed road. Driver tries to get through a tight gap. Cyclist refuses to be intimidated ; doesn't matter how good or bad the cyclist is cycling, The car driver needs to back off. Would you condone the driver running me over as it was my fault, law of the jungle etc? Please stop being ridiculous.
  13. You can't just donate ?5 and suddenly the problem is all sorted. You need to look at others things you can do practical support, campaigning, political activities etc. This is all far too simplistic. My charitable work is for other causes. You could say equally valid. I've friends who volunteer for food banks; much respect
  14. I suggest you reread my post, I was telling an anecdote about an agressive driver who I suspect is also an agressive cyclist. After saying you like cycling you are off on another rant against cyclists. You have confused me. I didn't say I went out of my way to block traffic. You sound rather obsessed! Back to my earlier point of share the road and share the love.
  15. Amused me. As a cyclist I got grief from a middle aged chap in a fastish car in Beckenham. I was on a traffic calmed road and he tried to get through a too tight gap. He told me as a cyclist I should be on the short bike lane. And that he was a cyclist so that made his comments legitimate. Clearly he was an rrrrrs whether behind a wheel or handlebars. He for one needs to understand presumed liability. Ps it was a quiet road and I was unfamiliar with the bike infrastructure. And there is no compulsion to use it in any case
  16. Hi Rockets, you post numerous times on this thread and LTN, and the two threads could be amalgamated. Yet you tend to refrain from getting into debate about opposing views. Back to my question on the LTN thread. Why the great antipathy towards cyclists?
  17. Rather vague, pretty clear what At Mungo's and other homeless charities are up to. This fundraiser is rather random. In terms of supporting homeless it is not just about money but also giving your time
  18. Or wean ourselves off hydrocarbons? We are no different than many of our neighbours in the West if anything have better energy security due to the reserves in the North sea including our great connectivity to Norwegian fields. The mistakes, as others have gone on about, have been in the last 35 years
  19. Just watching the Brown Blair documentary. Perhaps the double inheritance tax allowance that favours those more insulated from these financial pressures could be used to support those who will struggle.
  20. Why are you on an anti-cyclist agenda. As someone who talks about how they used to cycle a lot it's a little confusing. Your case would be stronger if you stuck to the impact of LTNs rather than make cheap comments for the pro car community.
  21. Perhaps a single party state and a planned economy... Oh wait a second that was tried and failed in the last century!
  22. I expect that it won't be tough on many around here who have the money to spend 100s of thousands extending their property. They've had the benefit of house price inflation, low interest rates, and some will have inherited small fortunes. Think of the next generation in particular those that won't be benefitting from family with money in property.
  23. There isn't a free pick up are as. You can meet people at a roundabout before, a short but unpleasant walk. Bummer

Things that today do not seem to matter. Please read my post rather than going off on one!
  25. A percentage of pedestrians have always crossed the road with hardly a look. Probably exacerbated by mobile devices. Today I had to avoid two people who were looking at their phones when we were on the pavement. Obviously an issue but please don't play the 'poor' driver card, or complain about the long awaited presumed liability in the new Highway Code. Better to propose solutions rather than complain!
