  1. Who is this Boris, a mate of yours? You've just encapsulated what a mess we are in when so many of the electorate use the PM's first name and see him as a lovable rogue irrespective of his lack of integrity and moral compass.
  2. I've driven a few EVs. The Leaf was great and you can get older ones which have enough range for the typical urban journeys at a reasonable price. The Tessla seems daft in an urban environment, better for motorway driving. But one hell of a status symbol. For those that haven't had a go test drives are available, and you will be a convert. Personally it will be a Zip or other car club sometime in the future as I have no financial case to keep a private vehicle.
  3. It's good that Labour has taken action to encourage less car use. The other major parties just seem to say what they won't do at a local level. At a national level the Tory/LD coalition was particularly useless, and it wasn't until the subsequent Tory government lost in the Supreme Court that this was taken seriously
  4. It's good that Labour is trying to do something about reducing car journeys. The other two main parties seem to just talk about not doing things. At a national level the Tory/LD alliance were pretty useless on addressing increased pollution from road transport.
  5. And remember folks, this is not a referendum on LTNs. Which I very much doubt will be removed. Time to move on. Thanks Trinny BTW, it wasn't your fault the thread was hijacked by some.
  6. Probably the most relevant point on this subject was DKH, in their excellent post - the choking of TfL by our current government.
  7. Well you just can win can you? You don't get leaflets and you complain. You get leaflets and you complain. Incidentally there is much more junk mail from other sources and some leaflets like that on the ULEZ extension really useful. And then you get Dulwichfox who doesn't even engage in the political process/democracy. Let's be realistic. Over the decades and numerous elections in a number of towns and cities I've never had a knock on my door. Politicians naturally focus on floating voters and swing seats. Social media gives us plenty of opportunity to engage, as well as hustings and getting involved in politics both locally and nationally. This thread comes over as another anti-LTN thread
  8. Do share the pic on this thread. There will be no issues about privacy if it was in a public space.
  9. Well we are obviously looking at this from a different perspective. London in my lifetime has always been congested. Traffic built up at certain times coming East on the South Circ near the Grove Tavern in years gone by. Catford Bridge snarled up in both directions, again well before any LTN Surely you can't argue that there doesn't need to be some controls. Otherwise support anarchy - from reading Orwell this may have briefly worked during the Spanish civil war. But sadly not for long So some radical solutions. Get rid of the bus lane by Toolstation and turn Dulwich Common into a duel carriageway. That would get the traffic moving. Well as far as the Tulse Hill gyratory. And don't start me on Wandsworth.... I've cycled throughout SE22 and it feels Bo better or worse. I sign the odd petition, do the odd mass ride, but hardly see myself as a militant cyclist. And certainly less militant than those who campaigned against the felling of oaks by Cox's bridge. I find the whole language putting people down as pro and anti (tribal)unhelpful. I expect many are happy for modifications to LTNs but agree with the general concept of introducing some inconvenience to drivers. Which has been done numerous times over the decades to close off rat tubs, so is nothing new. My mother's family grew up near the North Circ at a time when there were few private cars. Now it is a six lane motorway. And often congested. Irrespective of emissions there are just too many journeys. Shouldn't something be done?
  10. Please read my last post. This was purely in response to the continued blame on militant cyclists. Which has got repetitive and boring. If I wanted to say that those against LTNs are entitled petrol head climate change deniers I would have done so. Some will be but I expect most posting on this forum aren't.
  11. Yes damn those cyclists with their healthy lifestyles and low carbon/emissions. Why isn't Southwark more like the outer boroughs? You don't see Bromley introducing 20mph on their roads, encouraging active travel and introducing other restrictions on hard working motorists. They have it right there, bikes are for children and public transport for poor people. Sadly I know people who think like this.
  12. You'll get one for under a fiver from Posh Junk near the Plough. There are also garden tools for sale on this site. It's the sort of thing you can borrow from a neighbour so you could join or set up a local WhatsApp group.
  13. Human activity produces pollution not councillors on their own. But rightly or wrongly councillors are trying to do something about it. I'm not even sure what this shocking level of pollution is. If you want back 30 years you would have had lead from petrol, 70 years smog from coal burning and even before the industrial revolution South London was pretty disgusting for example leather tanning.
  14. Some of the vitriol against those delivering food seems unfair. I expect most complaining are earning several time more, and certainly won't be in zero outs contracts. Apologies if this is aimed more at the thread on moped riders
  15. Anyone got suggestions of how to stop parakeets raiding your feeders?
  16. I'd vote Labour out. Oh sorry that is a number of other threads. Walsh glazing, now in Herne Hill but for many years in East Dulwich. It's a fairly easy job to do yourself
  17. I found myself four times on inappropriate sites in the office. Three were opening attachments from mates, they were risqu? rather than obscene and once redirected from a benign site to something very much not benign. You get into an immediate panic trying to remember where the blank screen short cut is on Windows. At worst I switched it off at the mains, these were PCs in full site of others. At no time did I feel the need to investigate what was on my screen and spend further time looking at it to check that is was inappropriate.
  18. You could say that with any restrictions on motorists enforced through fines and FPNs. I'm sure the same was said when the breathliser was introduced in the 60s. Maybe take a broader view.
  19. Daft sweeping statement. There are many responsible dog owners.
  20. We used to play a game called killer wink. Is this is what we are talking about?
  21. Sorry, you can not fully divorce national and local politics. In the 00s Labour took a big hit at a local level due to Gulf war 2 with Lib Dems in London doing well. If the slippery one can look at local elections and see to have done well due to the reaction to the initiative that his government introduced you will need to take a long hard look at yourself. Obviously there will be those pleased with the Torries for sleeze, lies, care home deaths, energy policy, not fully getting Brexit done and gesture politics. Are you one of these people?
  22. Why haven't all Russians in the UK been rounded up and sent to an internment camp in the Isle of Man as with Germans and Italians in the second World War, whether they supported Hitler etc or not, and many clearly didn't. A facetious comment of course but it does interest me the position of the Russian ex pat community.
  23. He was watching Angela Rayner. A bit below the belt. Oh dear jus dug myself in further, apologies. It's so awful you couldn't make it up.
  24. There is a poorly signed bike route, Herne Hill to Clapham Common, then across the Common, head towards the river where you can find more quiet routes after Wandsworth, at Putney you can do the Thames Path, although a rough surface and during lockdown congested with joggers. More of a leisure route. Any ideas of the cycle route numbet- it's not one of TfL's and not easy to find on Google. Shame.
  25. Had a nice chat with Thames Water including the million dollar question why we have so many water mains problems around here. The engineers were new to the area and unaware, for example, that FHR had been closed at least once in recent months for the water mains. As Underhill has lights on it at the moment, meaning drivers are even worse than normal - that is driving standards, I've cycled via Goodrich Road. Hell, so many drivers 30mph plus. This is a schools area. Even more reason to close school roads Didn't notice any heavy vehicles. A snapshot not a scientific survey.
