  1. Just wanted to add, don't underestimate the effect on your children. We had building work very similar to what you describe when our kids were 4 and 3. The four year old confided in my mother that he was having dreams that our house was falling down. He really did find it quite disturbing.
  2. I let our removers do everything for us apart from my knicker drawer. it was great.
  3. Think it fell down last night in the storm....
  4. Anyone else suffering from very painful bites from this horrible insect? I've had three now from Peckham Rye Park - very painful and extremely swollen. Wondering whether I should go to the doc or just keep taking the antihistamine and hope they will go down.
  5. Hi Bishberro, you have described pretty accurately my son at the same age. He was diagnosed with dyslexia and learned to touch type which made the presentation of his work much better. It also meant that he could look at the board and type at the same time, which meant he was able to work much faster. Apart from anything, touch typing is an incredible skill to have He recently graduated with a 2.1 from a Russell Group university and now has a decent job. Don't panic too much, handwriting is disappearing, and I have absolutely no doubt, that by the time he is doing his A levels will be a thing of the past). Do get the diagnosis as soon as you can. He can then get the help he needs. Good luck!
  6. I have two single beds in good condition with storage underneath, plus bedding) that I want to donate to a good cause (asylum seekers or "in need" families). Can anyone recommend a charity or organisation who would ideally pick them up? Thanks
  7. WE bought a wonderful warren evans memory foam mattress a few years ago. It is like sleeping on a cloud and not at all sweaty. it was quite expensive though - but I think all good mattresses are. They delivered and at the same time took away our old mattress, which was a great service.
  8. Over the years my husband has laid a number of reclaimed parquet floors (one came from the hospital in west square that was being demolished and one from the BBC!). I have really loved them: warm, beautiful and easy to clean. They need to be re-oiled once or twice a year so they don't look too scuffed and high heels will mark them, but apart from that, I think they are a perfect choice for a kitchen, family room or even bathroom.
  9. It was probably the fireworks on the Rye, Have a look at the other thread.
  10. Congratulations! Thanks for letting us know!
  11. I'm not sure the receptionist gave me the right answer... But it all added to my confusion and inability to get an appointment within the next few days. All very annoying.
  12. Giles Davies on 07739 414210 is experienced at inducing babies through acupuncture.
  13. Quick update. I was told by FHC that they don't do contraception, but I could see a doctor (first available appointment 29th Jan). I tried again at Denmark Hill to get walk in appointment this morning by arriving at 8.30 am, to be told I would have to wait up to two hours. I tired to make an appointment for a Saturday, but was told that I could only call on the 19th for an appointment on the 31st. So eventually went to a private FP doctor today at a cost of ?100, to be told that I really needed to have a pelvic scan. Goodness, how complicated, how do other women cope?
  14. I went for quite a while very happily to the FP clinic in Townley road. When they closed I moved to the clinic in Denmark Hill. You can't make appointments for week days (and I really don't want to go on a Saturday), so I went last Friday at 11am and was told I would have to wait three hours to be seen. Do I have any alternative (other than going to a private gynaecologist)of being able to make an appointment somewhere local, turn up, be seen and be out within an hour? I have a Mirena coil and need a check up. My GP is Forest Hill Clinic.
  15. I have one which you keep in the freezer which works well. However, if you take it out to store it somewhere else, do refreeze with plenty of time in hand to make sure it's cold enough to freeze your custard (I would say at least 48 hours)....
  16. Battersea is best visited if you want to adopt a dog or a cat. Note, it is not easy to do this as they have a very strict policy (or at least did, some years ago when we got our rescue dog) of interviewing all family members and really understanding who you are and what you have to offer. we went back twice to try and choose a dog and each time was told that our choice would not work with our family. After the second time they rang us up and told us they had they perfect dog for us. we rushed round and met the six month old puppy who became a very much-loved part of our family. They had clearly "got" us and "got" the stray we adopted. How they managed this perfect match is very impressive. I agree - it is not really a children's pet activity...
  17. Really nice people and very talented jewellers, very sad to hear this. Please support them.
  18. I buy Amazon vouchers in the appropriate currency for all young relations abroad and ask them to let me know what they have bought (I refer it if they buy books, but they don't have to). Then they get something they want, no postage required and very easy to do.
  19. I had mine fitted at Camberwell and was very pleased. The nurse was lovely and made what is not the best experience in life, quite a laugh.
  20. I like Easy D. Going to use it from now on. I think people from other parts of London will be impressed and jealous.
  21. Mirena coil changed my life. after having children my periods were very heavy and painful. I had the coil inserted and that day I had what felt like bad period pain But after a little bit of bleeding whilst things settled down, i had no side effects at all. I have very light periods for a day or two each month and that's it. No side effects, and so nice to not have to worry about contraception. I wholeheartedly recommend it, you'll wish you'd done it earlier.
  22. Do be very careful on this one. Husband and son both have serious allergies to cats. Son, who has asthma, will have a bad attack if he goes to a friend's house with cats. It then turns into a chest infection and he is generally poorly for 2-3 weeks. I think the best suggestion is to let your son have a sleep over a few times before you launch into buying a cat.
