  1. Thanks everyone.
  2. Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I hope someone in the ED community can help. My father is celebrating a venerable birthday next year and has booked a house in Cape Cod for the whole family for one week. We want to spend another week on the east coast but have no idea where would be good to visit. Happy to drive c. 5-6 hours from Boston if necessary. Does anyone have any thoughts - we don't know the area at all, and our American friends and relations are all west coast based... Thank you
  3. Feel so privileged to have this lovely park on my doorstep. Thanks to the gardeners and to FOPRP for all their amazing work.
  4. West Wittering: lovely sandy beach. About 2 hours if you set off early. all the way down the A3 then A27 towards Chichester.
  5. You buy taps separately: lots of lovely one to choose from. Tip: don't buy too big a bath. I thought they all came the same size. When we redid our bathroom the one I chose was really long and I can't have a proper soak in it, so annoying.
  6. Lovely post, Lee.
  7. No-one has said SMBS - I love that shop. Every time I've gone in for some esoteric ingredient, they always have it.
  8. Be aware the whole of central London and some bridges will be closed/congested due to the Winter Run for Cancer Research on Sunday 31st. So do check against the route you choose to take. I don't have a link I'm afraid, but you will find it if you google it.
  9. I'm trying to imagine the curl pro. affect.Does it do ringletty type curls or can it do looser, bigger curls? I have the babyliss roller brush thing, which I find doesn't give me the latter type curls I want. Maybe I rush it too much and don't pin the rest of my hair out of the way...
  10. Thanks for the advice, I will check times for Crystal Palace. It's a shame re East Dulwich as it is walking distance for me...
  11. As part of my new fitness regime (!), I am planning to do some serious lane swimming. Could I have advice on whether it is emptier at the pool in the early mornings or late evenings and also approximately how many people swim in the lanes (medium/fast) at your recommended times? Many thanks.
  12. Just to add, I did go ahead with buying my Vitamix. When it first arrived, I was a bit disappointed as it looked like a standard, but very expensive blender and the recipe book didn't seem too exciting. I seriously thought that I had been "had" and was thinking I was going to have to send it back. However I made my first soup, Borscht, and was immediately converted: it was absolutely amazing, the texture was really smooth and creamy. Then I made a hollandaise sauce in five minutes, which was excellent. Then some green smoothies (nothing to throw away and very easily cleaned (unlike my juicer) and then some hummous. I can easily see myself using this everyday, and I can see why it was so expensive. I think the number of times I use it will justify the cost. Sales pitch over, but thought I should answer my own question.
  13. Anyone got one of these? I have heard they are amazing, can make hot soups from raw ingredients and also ice cream, as well as being a super blender. However they are very expensive. Thoughts anyone?
  14. We chose zinc - liked the idea of the retro French bar feel. Although it was expensive, it has been a great success. After about eight years it has aged beautifully with a lovely patina and aged feel. You can shine it up if you want to, but we never have. Really recommend it.
  15. Oh no! I absolutely love that Conor Harrington mural - and watched him paint it a few years ago. Can it be fixed?
  16. Another recommendation for Beauty 999. Very sweet ladies there and their manicures and pedicures stay on for ages. Well priced too. They seem to be getting really popular, so I advise booking rather than just turning up (which I used to do).
  17. Thanks - that's just what I need.
  18. Advice needed, I am planning to make a nice coleslaw for a large family gathering for Boxing day. I can't face slicing everything (carrots, cabbage etc) by hand. In the past my magimix processor hasn't been so successful for slicing. Does anyone have a great gadget that can speed my slicing?
  19. Just to say that I happen to be in California this Halloween and people are dressing up as whatever. The funniest sight I saw was a guy pushing a baby in a buggy with a unicorn head piece and unicorn hooves. We heard his wife saying to him can you see darling" and his plaintive reply, " I can just about see you". Let's hope it never comes to that in North Cross road.
  20. There are two speed monitors (smiley face things) outside no 19 Barry road and neither of them have worked for years...
  21. Very pretty, but huge numbers of English there. We went in July and saw more English people than Spanish...
  22. I feel for you, this must be very distressing. It sounds like you somehow have to deal with his current distress, rather than just the symptom, even though it is very hard. Maybe your GP or health visitor can suggest someone who can help you deal with the issues that are causing his distress. Good luck
  23. Will bring some stuff over on Saturday morning. Well done for organising this.
  24. I've had a mirena coil for the past 10 years and would echo the life changing effect it had: from very heavy periods to nothing. I too have sailed through the menopause, with just a month of a few hot flushes. I did have period pain after insertion and felt a bit wobbly. But with some pain killers and a day in bed, you should be fine. Highly recommended.
