  1. I took some stuff to St Christophers on Saturday. The shop was heaving with so many bags of donated stuff that I couldn't see how the staff would sort through them. I actually thought at the time that the shop felt like it was being overwhelmed. I imagine that was the reason why they were asking for no more donations at that time.
  2. Just to add that the quiet cycle option on the cityplanner app is really great for mapping out safe routes across London. You will need to get a holder on your handlebars to fit your phone though.
  3. Blanche Cameron must be the most irritating poster on the EDF. And that's saying something.
  4. I left a message for the park warden and the services manager about this on Monday morning - didn't hear back.
  5. re cycling - I don't disagree at all that we are ill-served by reliable public transport in East Dulwich. But that is exactly why I cycle into the City everyday. I am a 56 year old woman, but can easily make it in 30 minutes door to door (unfortunately yesterday I had to go by the 12 bus to Peckham Rye; the train to City Thameslink and then walk and it took an hour of stress). I have a lovely route: along the surrey canal and then wiggling through the back streets to the Shard (check out the quiet cycle route on citymapper). There are few traffic lights and it is a really pleasant and safe ride, especially now the weather is improving. I don't go crazy and therefore don't sweat. I don't need a shower and I arrive in a good mood and energised for the day. My work colleagues find me sickeningly upbeat at the start of the day. Cycling home is even nicer. I recommend it.
  6. So very sorry to hear this awful story, Andrew. Thank you for warning us to be vigilant. I hope you get over this trauma and that you are able to finish your studies successfully. Peace and love.
  7. I'm also interested in the answer to this, Blanche, as I am confused by your statements and what you really mean. You seem a little less than transparent.
  8. There is a table by the skate park in Peckham Rye park. Bring your own bats and ball.
  9. Impressed by Helen, disappointed by Harriet - who I have always voted for in the past. Thinking about switching to the Lib Dems for the first time in three decades.
  10. EDmummy do you mean vitamin B12 rather than Vitamin B?
  11. Thank you, I didn't realised it was called that. I cycle across that twice a day - will be very careful there.
  12. Do you mean the forecourt of Peckham Rye station?
  13. It may sound dramatic but the Mirena coil really transformed my life. After two children my periods became so heavy that it was causing me great difficulties. The coil stopped the bleeding, apart from a very light two day period (one small lillet a day). No major hormonal problems, but then I hadn't any beforehand, so can't be helpful on that front. Also no weight gain. However, it is painful to have put in - make sure you take painkillers and be prepared to spend the rest of the day in bed (like heavy period pain). All totally worth it, in my opinion.
  14. We live on Barry road and cleared away the leaves in front of our house at the weekend. Same as we do with snow.
  15. I think the problem is that if it is busy and there are buses in the bus lane and you are in the right hand lane (where you should be) wanting to turn left into Sainsbury's, you hold up the traffic behind you as you wait for the buses to go past, with the resulting frustration from those behind as the lights go red again.
  16. There are two speed signs (the ones that light up if you are going to fast) outside number 17 Barry road. One is right in front of the other; neither has worked for years.
  17. Good post Parkrunner
  18. We called it a lala and had a song that started "Don't show your lala at the table" which always made us laugh.
  19. Advice please - I want to get to London Bridge at 9.30 tomorrow for a very important meeting at 10 am. It looks like the (.13 is the one to get. Do you think I should risk it, or get a cab?
  20. A circumflex is not a "sounded accent"; rather it indicates where an "s" used to be. Thus cout (with circumflex in the example given) has the same root as cost (which is its English translation).
  21. Thank you for your polite note through the door last night. You have clearly tried everything you can to get rid of this very thoughtless annoyance. Good luck.
