  1. Hilarious thread! This has brightened up my dull day.
  2. The Keen Group use people carriers. I think about ?60-70K one way. Veyr reliable.
  3. Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer. I actually asked on behalf of a friend from Stoke Newington who doesn't have a similar forum. She couldn't believe the fact that people would read the post and spend time helping and advising. Go ED!
  4. Our wonderful kind, empathetic and knowledgable family doctor for the last 25 years, Rebecca Scorer, is retiring on Thursday. I only found out today because I had an appointment. A great GP to my family, I am now realising what a wonderful service we are losing as the NHS struggles through lack of funding. We wish her every happiness in her retirement. Thank you, Dr Scorer.
  5. I know this is probably a niche issue, but if anyone can advise on a good lawyer I would be very grateful. My mother left me some money recently and I want to invest in a small property for the benefit of my children. Should I put it in their names and/or mine. Genuinely confused by the advice I have received. Can anyone recommend a good lawyer to help me. Thank you.
  6. I was in Southampton Row yesterday near the junction with Havil Street and saw a building signposted Charter School East Dulwich. How does that work?
  7. Was the rash a bit like mild exzema? I have developed this over the last week or so, but thought it might be a reaction to new (expensive) body wash that I was given for my birthday.
  8. I had these guys last year. Very aggressive when I politely said no thanks and then they kicked the door when I closed it and shouted abuse at me. Very unsettling. I called the police, who came round quite quickly.
  9. Thank you Amin01, we are sorted now.
  10. Hi Sue, my yogurt maker cost ?20 and I have only made one batch of yogurt, which was very nice, but then I put the yogurt maker away and forgot that I had even bought it. Just making the point that I have a lot of what I felt were must have kitchen gadgets that I don't make the most of. All my fault.
  11. I spent an absolute fortune on a vitamix and initially used it quite a lot for soups. I haven't used it for ages. I only used my yogurt maker once (it made very nice yogurt), but then I forgot I had it until yesterday. I haven't used my ice cream maker in years, nor my breadmaker. They all seemed like very good, money saving devices at the time. I don't think they were, in hindsight (?20 for 1 litre of yogurt!).
  12. Thanks for the advice. Will definitely stock the fridge with some goodies and get the wine in.
  13. Should have written in my original post "How much should I pay", not how much should I charge them - which would have been rather grasping of me!
  14. The young couple involved live in a shoebox "studio" flat in Greenwich with shared bathroom and it turns out they are delighted to get, as you say, Bobbsy, free accommodation and facilities. For them it's a staycation in lovely ED. Everyone's happy!
  15. We are off on holiday this summer and have got a friend of a friend to live in our house, water the plants and take the dog for a walk avery day. Not sure what to charge, I was thinking of ?20 per day. Does that sound too much/too little/just right? Interested in your thoughts/experience.
  16. Very nice!
  17. Blanche, you are doing everyone's heads in.
  18. Not noticed anything different.
  19. For anyone interested in bees, can I suggest an excellent novel called "The Bees" by Laline Paull? It gives a fascinating insight into the what goes on inside a beehive. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Bees-Laline-Paull/0007557744/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1495028154&sr=1-1&keywords=the+bees
  20. Kind words from strangers can have a major positive impact. I still remember a moment in 1992 when I was struggling with my shopping in Sainsbury's with a new born in a sling and a fractious toddler in the trolley. I was exhausted, stressed and feeling pretty terrible. An elderly woman quietly commented to me "you are doing a terrific job, well done". It made me feel so much better, and I now try and say positive things to parents in the same situation.
  21. I quite agree with Taper. Ensure professional dog walkers are licensed with strict requirements on number of dogs and behaviours. Put some more dog mess bins in. Don't penalise the responsible dog owners who have control over their dogs - which when I am there - seem to be in the majority. If the dog owners don't walk in the park any more, the numbers of public will be drastically reduced and the cemetery won't feel to be the safe place it is at the moment. I am really disappointed to read the FONC announcement, particularly as I am a Friend and have been for over 20 years.
  22. Agreed, a fantastic legacy for Ingrid, I'm so glad the walks are continuing. I seem to remember there was a book about the street art. Does anyone know the name of it?
  23. I*rate - I would love to know why this piece of street art is highbrow. Genuine question.
  24. When my dad was 75 we made a poster for him entitled What we learned from Bob With lots of phrases from everyone in the family (eg its's important to tell the truth, how to sail a dinghy, use really hot water for washing up, how to light a fire), put together in different fonts and colours and then had it printed and framed as a large poster. He loved it. It was easy to put together and it was fun to work out who had said what and also how important he was to the family in all sorts of ways - some quite surprising. My mum was quite jealous and very pleased when she got hers a few months later. They now have pride of place as companion "works of art" in their house. And do actually look pretty good.
