  1. I think the issue in Barry road was that the blue bins were pulled out in error by the first crew. The Brown bin was emptied (as it is every week) and so was the green (done fortnightly). It seems that somebody thought another lorry was coming round for the blue bins, but it didn't come, as it wasn't scheduled. Apart from this hiccup, we have not had any problems in Barry rd.
  2. I often drop into M&S on the Walworth rd as I cycle home (not by any stretch of the imagination a well off area) and it seems to thrive...I'd like one this side of Dog Kennel Hill please.
  3. Good news, travelling up to the vet's opposite the Harvester is quite a trek....
  4. Don't be mean about James. Unless you are prepared to spend much of your time trying to sort out people's problems and working for the good of East Dulwich (and no, I didn't vote for him and am not in favour of the CPZ). PS I think that East Dulwich is one of e very best places in London to live...
  5. I and lots of people have had a really bad cold - no temperature but really poorly. Off work for a week and not great for 2. Didn't have the sickness though, thank goodness. Hoep you feel better soon.
  6. It's late and I've had a glass of wine or two but I'm hoping I'm not being presumptuous in asking what part of Ireland Miacle is from....
  7. I think it's great, the more that can be done to encourage kids to play sport the better.
  8. Saw quite a nerdy looking guy 30+ upstairs on the 12 yesterday at 6pm, wearing Bose headphones and watching a film on his iPad. I really wanted to say to him "you idiot, you are going to Be mugged and your fancy stuff ripped from your lap". But being too English, just never got the courage up... He got off at Camberwell, I hope he made it to his destination.
  9. My kids had numerous bikes stolen, two outside newsagents in LL. Mainly because they didn't lock them up. massive d locks are needed and kids need to be aware that if they don't lock the bike will be gone in an instant. It's a hard lesson to learn but we bought them cheap bikes off eBay till they really got the message.
  10. The Guardian today (page 33) said that Boris Johnson came to East Dulwich by mistake yesterday instead of East Croydon where he was supposed to be announcign a "massive makeover for the riot-scarred area". Anyone see him?
  11. Got on the 12 this morning at 8.45 at the bottom of Barry Rd. I had waited quite a long time and when it came downstairs was pretty full (only a few seats left). One buggy in place. When a second buggy arrived it took quite a lot of manoeuvring to get both sorted: not easy and one in at quite an angle. Respect to one of the mums who knew exactly the angles required... I got off at peckham rye, quite relived actually as I could imagine a bit of bus rage as it went down the route. I cannot imagine how things are coming home from then west end at 5.30 - 6 and would be interested to hear how commuters are getting on and their experiences compared to the BB. I cycle normally so luckily am spared. However, on the positive (and selfish) side, my house no lnger shakes as the BB's come hurtling down Bazza Rd.
  12. Have to say, I think it's working well on Barry Rd - maybe because we are a main road...
  13. If you live in a CPZ and have the room to Tarmac your front garden over to park in, I assume you are then exempt from the charge and have effectively privatised the strip in front of your home so that it is only available to you and not to anyone else. And you don't have to pay for a permit... What's to stop people doing this? Clearly the results would be horrendous, but in principal, could it happen?
  14. My house doesn't shake any more as the bendy 12 goes past!!! Hurrah!
  15. Barry Rd bin men are great and doing a really good job which I really wouldn't want to do. I think they really do their best and are very efficient. Plus some of them, in the summer when they work topless, are seriously hot!
  16. It's been in Barrys for a while, don't think it is yours, but might be a good replacement.
  17. Just had email confirmation that the no 12 will be a double decker from Saturday 5th November. They will run more frequently Monday - Friday and Sunday. Although the bendy bus was a nightmare for cyclists and was a stressful ride, it did mean that people got on and off quickly and that you could actually get on the bus. I'm dreading a return to the old days when you had to wait for bus after bus to get on it, or travel back up the line. So dispiriting. I am hoping that the new bus doesn't shake my house so much (I live on Barry rd).
  18. Thanks e-dealer. We are at the bottom of Barry Road, so I assume only bus is 185 to forest hill from LL?
  19. Come the Olympics next year, does anyone know how East Dulwich residents will be able to travel to the Olympic Park on public transport? I am so confused by the whole ELL thing (maybe not even relevant). Advice please
  20. You can use this template: Please do all you can to ensure that Southeastern service timetables will be amended to provide additional stopping services for Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye to Victoria. The loss of the South London Line is a terrible blow to the inhabitants of East Dulwich who have depended on this essential service for generations. Please do everything you can to safeguard and maintain our direct service to Victoria and to mitigate the much lamented loss of the South London Line.
  21. Mmm mmm. Threads like these make EDF worth signing in for... Thanks all
  22. I've lived on Barry Road for seven years and really like it. We are within walking distance of Peckham Rye Park and Lordship Lane via North Cross rd. Bus links are great, although the 12 takes ages to get home on from the West End. We have Barry's and HomeMade over the road which is great and the back of the house and garden is very quiet. The front is a bit noisy, but we have double glazing in our bedroom. We do get vibrations from the 12, which is a bit worrying, but are hoping that will go when the new buses come in. We have found people are pretty friendly, although more from those in houses than in the flats, who tend to be a bit more transient. Having said that in the time we have been here, there has been one murder and one "pretend" murder, which I believe was to scare a drug dealer, within 100 yards of our house...
  23. Very strange, I've seen some lower altitude planes this pm but no big ones. Sky now is clear. Is there something we haven't been told?
  24. Can't agree with your comment about Lordship Lane carpets (if that is who you are referring to). we have used these guys in 2 East Dulwich houses over the last 20 eyars and have found them to be helpful, timely, efficient and cost effective.
