  1. So very sorry to hear this very sad news. Our thoughts are very much with the family.
  2. I don't care where she leaves, it's what she does that's important. And I think she does a great job - and that goes for Harriet Harman too. Both are excellent constituency MPs. Well done Tessa on the Damehood - well deserved.
  3. I have 2 who were 16 months apart, a boy then a girl. Having done that I never wanted or even thought about having a third. It was great to have got all the nightmare of sleepless nights over within two years. They grew up well together (both very sporty) and it was great they had each other to play with. One Christmas my daughter did ask for a baby sister...We have always been able to do things as a family together without havign to go at the pace of a littler one.
  4. Thanks all, think we will cycle to Honor Oak or Canada Water and then use the travel card. Our event starts at 9.00, they say you have to be there 2 hours before. If it's going to be difficult travelling, I envisage leaving Barry Rd at about 5.30 am - eeek!we're going on the 1st August. If you are travelling before that, please do post on here and let us know how it went.
  5. I have tickets for the Olympics and wondering which might be the best way to go... Thought about cycling, too. Anyone have any thoughts...
  6. Salia's tale brought back memories of my experience 19 years ago. "triple blood" test came back with a very high probability, amnio at 16 weeks "didn't take", had CVS at 20 weeks undertaken by the wonderful Dr Nicolaides. This was when his Nuchal testing was in its early research days. All was fine, although conception date and due dates didn't make sense at all. Beautiful daughter was born one week late, but all staff thought she looked approx 3 weeks prem. Now a wonderful 19 year old, who has brought nothing but joy to my life. I can still remember the cold sweats, panic and utter fear I underwent, specially as by the end she was kicking and I was very obviously pregnant (2nd time round). Can't imagine what I would have done if things hadn't been OK....
  7. How much are they "fleecing" you exactly, Salsaboy?
  8. As a cyclist, just have to say the new road is LOVELY!
  9. I have lived off LL since 1991 (Melbourne Grove and Barry road) and never knew that there was a car park behind Iceland. I'm glad I didn't know as I might have been tempted to drive. I always walk (particularly when the children were small) and now cycle as I don't think I would ever find a parking place - and anyway how lazy would that be? I would not buy a flat if I had a car and there was no parking, I would buy a flat somewhere else. If I bought a flat on LL, I would use a zipcar, specially if I was a 20/30 childless someone, to whom these flats are presumably going to be targetted at. I have been in Iceland quite a few times over the years, often because some say it's great. I am sure they stock cheap veg, but when I want that I cycle over to Rye lane (fresh and cheap - can't be beat). Everything else looks like cheap, processed food. I maybe wrong, but that's what I saw. I would shop in M&S on an occasional basis if I can't be bothered to cook (and I do cook from scratch nearly every night) and want a good quality convenience food. It's not because I think it makes me posh or whatever, I just think they have a good product. And I do remember that M&S were just about the only corporate who went back into Brixton after the 1980 riots - and I don't think they were being cynical when they did that. That stayed with me.
  10. If I was James, i would stop posting on here, given that every single post seems to attract sarky comments. Give the guy a break - he doesn't deserve it every single time.
  11. Very touching, computedshorty, thanks for sharing.
  12. Are we definitely sure it is piss?????
  13. Don't tip for the beauty treatments and do tip for the tea - 15%.
  14. I refuse to give anybody money - or sign DDs - who comes to the door, or asks for money in the street or who calls me. I just tell them I need time to consider and can they give me/send me some information. It's polite, gives you time to consider and gets rid of them.
  15. Looks great now...
  16. Ilike this thread - making me happy just reading it. Thanks everyone.
  17. Had my highlights done at Harold George in Dulwich Village. They so needed doing and now I am really pleased with how my hair looks! Hurrah!
  18. I have found Harriet a very supportive constituency MP when I recently asked her for help.
  19. My kids are at Uni now, but your post takes me back to my days of being a working mother in ED. I continually reminded myself that my kids were happy and being well looked after and that was the most important thing, my emotions were very of very much less importance, and in the great scheme of things, self-indulgent. I don't want to depress you, but being available when they are teenagers and adolescent is so much more important - they really need you then, emotionally, and it's quite tough because they cut you little slack. At least when your kids are little, they don't really mind or care that it's not you doing the mothering. When they are older, it's you they need (to love them and to rebel against). You just have to do your best and try and enjoy it as much as you can - it's over all too soon, as I am sure your mother has told you! Good luck!
  20. Sunskippy: so the right answer to your problem was advice from the pharmacist. Quick, cheap and helped you. Was that not a solution to your problem?
  21. Oh for goodness sake! Stop being so negative and picky! It is very scary when you nearly cause an accident (I am a cyclist, driver and pedestrian, and know what it's like when bad things nearly - or do - happen) and I think you could cut Miss P some slack and not be so cynical. she may well have been posting with the best of intentions - why should you assume any different?
  22. Genuinely interested where you are going to avoid airplane noise.. Seems to me that if you have to live in london or the SE for work/family etc aircraft noise will always be a problem... Northern Scotland maybe? PS lots of advantages to that and not just decreased airplane noise...
  23. I was cycling home to ED tonight at c 6.20 pm through Bellenden and the police had taped everything off - somewhat un-nerving. Am I allowed to ask if anyone knows what was going on?
  24. A sixth form student from Alleyns or Jags would jump at this. Put an ad in the window of the newsagent in Dulwich village or track down a copy of the inter schools advertiser.
  25. 1 Forest Hill Road is an EXCELLENT practice (I have been goign there for 20 years) and have never had a bad experience or an undue wait for an appointment.
