Car windows smashed on Oglander Road
Vanessa3 replied to twinhunters's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yep, our car also had a window smashed last Friday night- ours was parked on the corner of Felbrigg and Bawdale road.... rather surprisingly, they didn?t even bother to steal the IPod or small change from the console. -
To the dog walker in Ruskin Park this morning, whose dog bit a runner as she ran past.... just to let you know I?m okay. You were part of a group of dog walkers around 10am this morning, and none of you bothered to ask if I was okay, or even utter an apology. When I challenged you angrily that your dog bit me, at first you denied it, then realising that you couldn?t deny what had happened, you has the tenacity to say it was my fault for running past..... Please keep your dog on a shorter leash if it?s inclined to lunge and bite People as they pass. I?m glad I wasn?t running with my children this morning, or it may have been far worse. As I now know what you and your grumpy dog look like, I?ll know to avoid you and run through the flower beds, but other park users may not.

Another plumber recommendation for Lee Garvey. Really nice guy, he fixed the broken tap & price was reasonable.

Still Missing - Lost Black cat - Shawbury Road
Vanessa3 replied to Webster's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
Hi Webster, We're based on the Bawdale/Hansler/Felbrigg corner and noticed another missing cat poster yesterday (Cheetah). Our cat Banjo is really poorly at the moment and has been for a week now. Perhaps several of the cats in our area have a virus? I'm keeping an eye out and have mentioned to a few neighbours to check their gardens- good luck finding Pippy. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Vanessa3 replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi James, Several years ago I raised a question about the safety of the Whateley Road / Fellbrig Road junction. I am one of the many parents who walk children to Heber Road & find crossing this junction really dangerous. The traffic heading down Whateley road rarely stick to the 20mph limit. Since the opening of the new Harris Academy on the corner of Whateley Road & Lordship Lane, traffic has increased considerably. If the junction is deemed 'safe' due to the lack of accidents, could this junction be considered for a 'lollipop' person during the school run? Cheers, Vanessa -
what's your family's favourite food?
Vanessa3 replied to SE22mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Here are some of our favourites that get rotated pretty regularly -Stir-fried noodles with egg, chicken, fish or beef (whatever protein you have in the fridge). I always throw in peas/carrots or any vegetable they may eat or pick out! -Fajita's (you don't have to make it spicey - just add a little paprika). I add tomato passata or salsa & loads of cheese. -Chicken cacciatori (with rice or pasta) -Chicken or Beef stroganoff (again with rice or pasta) -Pizza (made with flat bread or wraps) my boys love making their own -Burgers (Beef, lamb or turkey mince) -Soup: prefect for winter- I serve it with fish fingers & crusty bread or crutons -Chicken (or pork) schnitzel with polenta or mash potato -Fish (either crumbed & fried) or white fish with a cheesy parsley sauce & potatoe wedges -Apple & blackberry crumble -

Hi James, Is there any chance of Southwark looking into a pedestrian crossing on Whately road at the Felbrigg/Cyrena Road junction? It's a popular route for school children heading to/from Heber Road & can be quite tricky during the school run. Vanessa -
Hi, Can anyone recommend a child friendly dentist in the area?

Wing mirror stolen for car parked on Goodrich road
Vanessa3 replied to Capt'n Tortue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Our discovery, along with our neighbours, were done over last week on Fellbrigg Road -both cars parked under a street light. The guys over at JLC in Herne Hill are doing a roaring trade! -
After 2 emercency C-Sections at Kings, my 3rd C-Section was planned. During the pregnancy my midwife made an appointment to meet with one of the consultants at Kings regarding the birth. They discus with you the usual factors:- previous pregnancies/births, current medical conditions etc. & discuss the risks involved with C-Section v's V-BAC. Ultimately their priority is safe deliverly of baby & mum. When I came do discuss delivery dates with my midwife, she advised me who would be the surgeon on the days surrounding my C-Section dates. In the end I didn't have my consultant as theatre was already booked up for that day. So you can choose your surgeon if you know what days they are rostered in theatre. The more complicated pregnancies have the more senior staff assigned. But these are all things you can discuss with the consultant when you meet them. I met the surgeon in pre-op when I signed the waiver forms (always a scarey moment!) All the consultants & surgeons I met over the years have been fantastic. Right before thay take you to recovery you are topped up with pain killers & on the ward I had no trouble needing meds outside the meds dispensary round. What took ages was getting the release forms signed to go home - nothing ever gets done close to shift change!

Great post Polla2256. I've been a cyclist on London streets for years, but it wasn't until I did my motorcycle training that I understood the importance of how a few little techniques can help save your life- lane dominance, road positioning, checking your blind spot & knowing when you are in someone else's blind spot. I hope more cyclist do the training - well worth the money. http://www.londoncyclist.co.uk/learn-5-recent-incidents/

Definitely a trike or a scooter - one of my boys were out of the pram at a similar age & insisted on scooting because his big brother did. At that age they don't mind being towed with a strap - it's all better than a pram.

For the 1st winter in 5 years, I am no longer (i) pregnant; & (ii) breast-feeding. Time to book a snow boarding trip. I've done plenty of resorts over the years, but none with 3 kids in tow... Older boys will be 3 & 4 by Christmas, & was hoping to get them into a ski school. Recommendations for resorts/hotel/chalet/ski school all welcome.

Children Swimming lesson at dulwich leisure centre
Vanessa3 replied to dulwichk's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My boy has just turned 4 and has been doing lessons for 3 months. He loves it & has gained plenty of water confidence since doing the lessons. Would definitely recommend it. -
Last weekend at the Goose Green Fair, I took some photo's of my boys on the bouncy slide & another family (father & daughter) who my son took a shine to. I promised the mum (north american accent / long dark hair / baby in a sling) I would e-mail the pics to her. I am very sorry - I have misplaced your e-mail address. Please PM me your details so I can send the photos to you. Vanessa

Is Peckham one o'clock club open this morning?
Vanessa3 replied to verds's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I rang Southwark about this & apparently the weeks rotate alternate days - Monday, Wednesday, Friday one week, then Tuesday & Thursday the other week. -
One of my boys were a bit grumpy for a few days, the other one had no reaction. Don't worry, your little one will be fine.

Flying long haul (Australia) with a 6 month old
Vanessa3 replied to Strawbs's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Strawbs, I flew home to Sydney on my own with one of my boys when he was just under 6 months old. I was expecting the worst & it was a pretty easy journey in the end, so don't worry too much in advance. Also, the ground crew & plane staff are generally really supportive & do help you out if you need a hand. I've found even the worst sleepers tend to fall asleep okay once the roar of the engines start up. PRAM: I took our Phil & Ted's up to the gate & handed it over to ground staff - don't worry about the size of your pram - they let you take it to the gate & you will get it back in Oz. In Singapore I had little one in the baby bjorn - which was really useful as I had to take my massive baby bag off the plane & re-board - It was good to have hands free for clearing customs in Singapore & Sydney - but like I said, ground staff & other passengers are always happy to help out. You do get priority boarding & clearing customs with a baby when travelling alone. FLYING: I've flown BA & Qantas over the years - arrange in advance the baby carrier seat - even at 5 months, my eldest was too big for the crib, and I had them swap it for the car seat - it works the same as the crib - it's fixed to the bulk hold once you're in the air, but baby must be on your lap during take off & landing & turbulence. Definitely grab sleep when you can, even if you're not tired - 24 hours is a long time not to sleep. I wouldn't advise stopping over - I stopped for a few days in HK last year, and had the problem of bringing a baby & a toddler down to Sydney alone & both were still on London time. They say you catch up on jet lag an hour a day, and I have definitely found this with children. A stop-over simply prolongs the inevitable- that you still need to get on a plane & do another long haul with a baby, except this time, baby will be all over the place with jet lag. MILK: While both boys were BF, I had formula with me when one of the boys were 8 months old. I packed a couple of cartons of aptimel powder in my luggage, which was fine - baby gets the full 23kg luggage allowance, so weight should not be an issue. If you can get the dairy free formula here cheaper, pop it in your suit case. Any that you take on board, you will be asked at Heathrow to taste (they ask you to open half of it, but in reality, I've only ever had to open a few bottles) Other good tips - pack a clean set of clothes for you - babies can do exploding poos & projectile pukes & at 36000 feet, it often lands on you! Sorry for the essay - I've done this trip many times with little ones, so feel free to PM me if you have any specific worries. It's natural to feel a little bit anxious before a long haul with a baby by yourself, but it's only 24 hours, and for me, easy by comparison to childbirth!! Good Luck! -
I've just checked Cheeky Cs web-site & looks like it's finished for Easter. Does anyone know if St John's & St Clemments Church is running, or any ohter playgroup?
