  1. Hi there, good friends of ours have moved to Romania and we're keen to visit them. I wondered if any other ED folk have been to Romania and could recommend anywhere/anything good for kids there. It seems a shame to stick to Bucharest only but I know that Romania is not a traditional holiday destination and I don't want to bite off more than we can chew or go somewhere without knowing the language and being totally clueless! Our kids are 3,6 and 7. Thanks in advance...
  2. It is an unbelievable waste of money and if anything the road is now considerably less safe. The disruption was horrendous - and more yet to come in the new year as they resurface this mess. At a time when the local schools and other essential services are losing out to lack of funds; how on earth can this be justified? Again there is a temporary respite - at the time when the roads are quietest.
  3. You are right but I am concerned that this won't be the last of it because drivers don't act always act rationally.
  4. I think these two very bad accidents are linked to the massively disruptive works; the likes of which are so unbelievably disruptive, with the timings of the lights apparently so illogical . The works started just as the schools went back and the tailbacks are right next to two local primary schools, so the impact on air quality is absolutely dreadful. If the village junction will be massively improved then maybe, just maybe, it makes sense. But this seemed to go ahead despite massive local opposition and confusion about the ultimate purpose of it. Let's just hope that it has a positive impact... some time next year... And let's hope there aren't any fatalities in the meantime.
  5. I put some money towards the independent consultation which was crowd funded and they did meet the ?4K target. Anyone know what happened to that? It does seem odd that this is all happening given the strength of feeling against various eleemnts of the plans.
  6. Might try that - but what happens is you edge along slowly inch by inch as all the side roads try to get in the queue too and understandably force their way in having also been stuck for in excess of 20 mins! Really chaotic.
  7. I do appreciate the irony of complaining about fumes while driving - but I am referring to build up of fumes with hundreds of cars just getting stuck, as we were, pumping fumes out for in excess of 30 minutes on the same road right by a primary and Infants school. Sadly this was one occasion when I did genuinely need the car.
  8. it's a health hazard having all these cars clogged here for hours on end. It took me two hours earlier as I was mainly at a standstill. Cars blowing out fumes non stop right by the local schools in the village. awful!
  9. Anyone on here know whether it's true that the works will continue till February?! School run nightmare for those that have no choice but to drive some days ... I have to because I have a few in different schools/nurseries. What is the ultimate goal of it all, does anyone know?
  10. As a self-employed person and mum of three there are occasions when I have no choice but to work in a coffee shop out of the house (where three extremely noisy kids are). without that option every now and then I wouldn't be able to work - and I don't have the option of renting office space for those odd occasions. Most people I know who do this aren't taking up all the seats - they buy a drink and maybe a snack and sit quietly, not bothering anyone. With so much of our population self employed I really think that it's unkind to moan about it. I don't know why it's considered smug!
  11. In this country some 8m people didn't vote. The victory was by a slim margin. If you didn't want this result, please sign this petition and share it far and wide. Those who don't want Brexit must keep sharing. Since yesterday it has reached 3m but ideally we need it to get to above 17m... so we can't let it run out of steam overnight and into early next week. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/131215 If you're on any email lists, please share, share, share... thanks.
  12. Hi - does anyone on this forum have a son at Dulwich Prep London and are you pleased with it? It seems quite formal in approach so I wonder if the boys actually have fun and enjoy themselves there? Any opinions greatly appreciated. When I was looking at the school a few years ago people i asked were very positive. Is this still the case? Many thanks! Lucy
  13. Thirded! We used him this weekend and he did a great job.
  14. We are thinking of getting a Danish au pair. She has asked whether we can book her on a language course, although her language seems very good to me! She is basically fluent. Does anyone have any ideas of a good course for her where she might make some friends and perfect her English? We live in Dulwich Village. Thanks a lot. She also suggested we might get health insurance for her - having only just started looking into this, I am not really sure what she is referring to... any tips gratefully received! Lucy
  15. Hi, we are wondering what experience people have of DUCKS primary school. Does it prepare the kids well for entrance into selective schools at aged 7 when it finishes? We live close enough, I think, to good local state schools, but I've been told that if we're considering any of the private options at secondary stage, which we would like to, you need to tutor kids etc, which all sounds stressful. Is DUCKS a good school and is it worth the money?! Any views appreciated ... thank you. If you'd rather PM me, please do so...
  16. Hi, we'd love to get a kitten... I'm on the lookout for people with cats locally who may have kittens to home. Please let me know if you do! Thanks. Lucy
  17. Can hear the constant drone of helicopters here. At least that means the police are doing what they can, I hope they are enabled to take a much tougher line this evening, this cannot be allowed to happen!
  18. Hi Just wondered if I could be added to the list? I'm having my second baby in November (due 25th) Would be lovely to meet some local people, as we're moving to Dulwich next month hopefully (although we live quite close at the moment, too) Thanks Lucy ([email protected])
