  1. Now the Gowlett is closed where to instead for Christmas Eve drinks?
  2. Can I just get a sledge hammer and knock a wall down? I want to make my son?s bedroom bigger - so I want to move one of his walls and put in a stud wall partition. Is that ok or do I have to get building regs approval?
  3. I'm thinking of starting a new political party - it will be centrist, pro-Europe, pro-electoral reform, and strong on tolerant social values, with a focus on the environment. Anyone interested?

    Freelancing

No, I'm paid by the SLP to observe goings on in ED and report back.

    Freelancing

I'm planning to go freelance as most people I meet down the Gowlett are freelancers and they say it offers more flexibility. Any advice on doing this? I'm a flaneur.
  6. Oh yes - that's a good idea - thank you.
  7. What pub is everyone going to for Christmas Eve? I'm planning to go out before I go to midnight Mass at St John's - so would like to go where everybody else will be. EDT? It's not to far to walk then if I'm a bit wobbly.
  8. Ah, ok, thanks for that info- do you know what time the two services are?
  9. Does anyone know where you can get reserved seating tickets for the Christingle service at St John's from? I asked at the Goose Green centre the other day, but the staff there didn't seem to know what I was asking about. I've got family coming at Christmas and want to take the little kids to the service and don't want to be turned away at the door if it has got too packed by the time we arrive. I couldn't see anything on the Church's website about tickets.
  10. I don't think my wife would stick living in a caravan for 5 years (but maybe we wouldn't have to actually live in it?). Any way I'll think what I'll do is rent out my house on Landcroft Road and buy a larger house on one of the local 'Grove' Roads to make sure we're near enough for when the time comes to apply. I've also started reading Southwark Council's annual school admissions policies - apparently 'Looked-after' children are given priority over straight line proximity, but I think that's a fair thing to do, so I'm very supportive of that. I did look at Alleyn's, but apparently you need to know the pluperfect tense in French or some nonsense like that for the admissions test. I don't even know what the pluperfect tense in English, let alone in my second language (Italian).

I didn't know the school hasn't opened yet - I think I'm getting confused with the Charter School in Dulwich village. Will this new planned school just take kids from East Dulwich rather than further away such as Nunhead or Peckham Rye? I'm thinking of moving soon to Tell Grove - do you think would that be close enough for the new school?

Curmudgeon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Wait 4 years and look around all the secondary > options (when your child is year 5) > > Charter East Dulwich is not even open yet One of my school friends told me to start worrying now about secondary school admissions as her friend's daughter, who lives in Peckham, only got offered a place in Beckenham (?Langley park). So I thought I'd better start planning and (?saving) now.
  13. I just let my three kids sleep when they wanted when my wife wasn't there to get stressed about it - they always seemed to still sleep in the evening after I gave them some gripe water.
  14. Does anyone know how the Charter School East Dulwich is? I'm considering sending my son there (current year 1 at Dulwich Prep) and wanted to get a sense of what it's like there.

    Rugby matters

Has anyone got any spare/unwanted tickets for the England vs. Wales game tomorrow? I could give you ?200 for two. PM me with any offers of tickets please.

Well I had a couple of enquiries re: renting a room out, but my wife wasn't keen on the idea when I told her. Someone sent me a PM with good advice on how to 'unsalt' halloumi. I'm still waiting for a recommendation for servicing the Merc though - hopefully someone will know a good garage.

  18. Just to say dinner at Mr LIU's was lovely last night (tofu with black bean sauce) - I would recommend it if you fancy a Chinese in East Dulwich.
  19. There's not much on their website is there? It just says "WE DON'T TAKE BOOKINGS SO JUST TURN UP WHEN'S GOOD FOR YOU; IT'S FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED" Never mind - I'll go to Mr LIU's then. Thanks for the advice everybody.
  20. Yes - I went there once and it was all wet on the floor around the pool - I could have slipped and there were no warning signs. Have they not got a mop?
  21. That bloke at Haart said 725.
  22. Oh, I can't be bothered with all that queuing then, especially if there's no sourdough pizzas - I'll try the Sea Cow or the Chinese at Mr Lou instead. Thank you
  23. Oh - FRANCO! I misheard on the phone - thank you. I'll have a look now and see if I need to book to order or not.
  24. I'm visiting the area again soon - my friend said to try the sourdough pizzas at Panco Manco? - does anyone know where that is? I did a quick Google search for it but could only find a pizza restaurant in Oregon. Also do you have to book or can you just walk in and order?
  25. I've recently heard what happened to Fr Charles - obviously it was wrong that he downloaded and stored the videos, however I do feel very sad that he was so despondent he killed himself. I used to attend the children's services attend at St John's with my family - Fr Charles was always very friendly and approachable. I hope he has found some peace at rest now.
