  1. I was unable to attend the meeting due to a previous commitment but as the Cllr responsible for heritage I am hoping to see the Peckham Society to discuss outcomes. Lewis
  2. I have to say I am extremely concerned about the cuts to the East Croydon service and consequently Gatwick. This has sneaked through and cuts out a service to a huge number of Dulwich residents, and I feel that just because it is being presented as a "done deal" is no reason for elected representatives to sit back and accept it. We may not be able to do anything about it as Jeremy said - but we still at least need to try and hold them to account for their actions. Lewis
  3. As the ward councillor, and Executive Member responsible for the Borough's heritage, this is the position; a planning application for the demolition of 549 Lordship Lane, the Concrete House, was submitted by the owner in October, That application is currently invalid. If the Council recieved a valid application for demolition and a new development it would be considered through the normal planning process and public consultation. Southwark Council recognises the historical significance of this building and its preference would be to restore the building, which from all the professional advice I have recieved, could still be done. Whilst this is the case, I have always made it publicly clear that I would oppose any plans to demolish. Lewis Robinson
  4. Just a quick update on the Memorial. Firstly if anyone wants some photos of the ceremony we held a couple of weeks ago I can supply some rather good ones taken by the Council's photographer, I know some people came from outside London so they might want a memento of the event. I have already discussed with the cadets and peckham perkster applying for some further funds next year, two ideas are to restore the small railings by the pavement and provide an appropriate plaque or noticeboard by the memorial where we could put a full history of the Battle of High Wood and the Dulwich Volunteers. I think this has been a fantastic project and I hope this will prompt works to other memorials in the borough as I would not be suprised if there are others that are in need of some restoration. I hope that you'll be able to join us for Remembrance Sunday. My e-mail is [email protected] for photos. Lewis
  5. As previously mentioned, we will be holding an opening ceremony on Sunday 14th September, and this will start around 12noon. I hope some of those who have followed this thread will be able to join us to celebrate the renovation of the Memorial. Lewis
  6. The outcome of the meeting last night is as follows; The meeting was informed that the traffic lights, turning right from Edgar Kail Way down the hill have been rephased by Transport for London (TfL) from 10 to 20 seconds, which is good news. Traffic officers believe this will have a significant effect on reducing the backing up of traffic exiting Sainsburys. It was also agreed that a mini rounndabout would be installed at the notorious junction with Sainsburys entrance, to at least try and improve the "right of way" for Abbotswood Road residents. This will be on a temporary basis only and the Council will monitor traffic here, and if it does not improve things, it will be reviewed. There was quite a lot of buck passing going on - for example Sainsburys, and the Council's traffic team should have foreseen the problems that might have been caused and got TfL to rephase the lights during the first planning application. The parking on the slip road remains a bit up in the air - I told Sainsburys outside the meeting its not good enough just telling their staff not to park there - they have to demonstrate to all concerned they have made adequate provision for their employees on their own site, which would be good for the staff as well. As previously stated I'm not a ward councillor here and was not able to speak at the meeting - Cllrs Veronica Ward and Peter John were present and did speak. I agree with them that its been a pigs ear from beginning to end but this at least represents a first step to helping residents rather than Sainsburys customers.
  7. I am aware of this development - I objected to the original application which got through on appeal. As ward councillor I will contact planning and get a copy of the plans and request it goes up for members decision at the Dulwich Community Council. Happy to discuss if local residents want to contact me Lewis
  8. Sainsburys application will be heard at Planning Committee evening of Tuesday 22nd April Lewis
  9. That's correct. If you have any issues about the condition of the road, which is the responsibility of the Estate, please contact me as I'm the ward councillor and I can take it up with them.
  10. Sainsburys latest planning application is due up in front of Planning Committee this month. If Abbotswood Road residents want a copy of the letter I've submitted about the problems here, let me know and I'll post it to you. I will be attending the meeting and will post the date when I hear more. Lewis
  11. The policy is that the library service will accept donations, on the understanding they meet a number of criteria; physical condition; currency of information;subject matter; potential for use and whether the item meets legislation affecting libraries. If they do not, they reserve the right to offer them for sale or reuse.
  12. The answer to the question what is the council's actual policy will be provided in writing at Council Assembly this evening and I'll post it tomorrow morning. It is also interesting to note that the District Auditor's letter discussed at Audit Committee last week raised a concern that not enough Southwark residents are using our library services.....
  13. Just back to the original post - which I find quite intriguing - library services turning down free donations. I'm going to make an enquiry about how this practice has come about, as it strikes me the common sense policy would be to accept all donations buy a few more bookshelves and stock up, especially considering there will be a new library up at Grove Vale with twice the floor space to fill.... Lewis
  14. Hello, I have to agree that what ratty and ladygooner say about parking here is absolutely spot on. The new road layout, combined with the parking restrictions in Sainsburys car park have created a severe traffic problem (which to be fair they now partly acknowledge in the latest correspondence) and the people most adversely hit are the local residents. Parking along the slip road is clearly dangerous. I am rather sceptical about Sainsburys claim they had to tackle "commuter parking" and I think Sainsburys need to clarify whether they provide staff parking in their car park? Although I am not the ward councillor here, I have taken an interest in this issue since I became aware of it, and I have every intention of making representations to Planning when the new proposals to install a roundabout are submitted and to try and tackle this parking problem along the slip road once and for all. Give me a call if you want to tell me what you think. Lewis Robinson 07815 208066
  15. I'm happy to attend on Remembrance Sunday and I'll arrange a wreath on behalf of the local Councillors Lewis
  16. OK. I have been contacted this morning about this matter by a constituent in College Ward. I will write to the Head today, asking if a reminder/warning can be sent out to parents about not parking on the yellow markings outside the school, and that if the problem continues a parking enforcement "sweep" should be done. I'll copy it into my colleagues in East Dulwich, as the school is in their ward, and parking enforcement. Lewis
  17. Lordship Lane estate has the following blocks; Bew Court, Byron Court, Campbell Court, Glennie Court, Mcleod & Maxwell. There is also a small group of 6 flats known as Conway Court on the other side of the road down there. Hope thats helpful.
  18. Its the tree that won it, although I recall a sculpture polled rather well. I don't know what variety of tree the Council will in their wisdom deem suitable.
  19. Hi, I'm the local councillor for this part of Dulwich. I think its an excellent idea to use one of the reparation schemes to restore the memorial. If you think you need some more funds for the full restoration, why not make an application under the Cleaner Greener Safer scheme? The forms on the council website and closing date is end of the month. I would be happy to support it, and come and do some weeding, if invited! If you want to discuss give me a call on 07815 208066.
