  1. A friend of mine was a bus driver for a while but gave it up after the abuse he had to suffer from members of the public: being sworn at, spat at, etc. while just trying to do his job. I think people underestimate the level of hassle that these people have to deal with in an average day. He's a geniunely nice guy and I'm sure that he'd have catered for "extenuating circumstances". Anyway, he did tell me they had a nickname for the OAPs who (often) tried to travel before they were supposed to. They were known as the "twirlies", as in "am I twirly? (= too early)"! So most of them probably know they're probably not meant to be trying to travel but chance it anyway!
  2. I'm going to be at home again next Wednesday. They are truly sh1te.
  3. They used to be good. Now they are not.
  4. Don't even get me started on British Gas' Homecare 200 "insurance". I've been waiting since 11th October when the part was supposedly first ordered...... At least I know somewhere else not to go when/if they finally fix this and I terminate our relationship. So thanks! Anyone got any decent ones?
  5. What sort of skill level is required to join this?

. (was a duplicate of LL's post which was on the next page).
  9. Going to see DV8 on Friday.... Will post something after that if I remember!!!
  10. You could pick up the plasters and clumps of hair yourself.....
  11. Me too. But I've always wondered if the final B was meant to be "?"! So is it "Hon a loo cheeb" or "Hon a loo chees"? Or do we need a separate thread on the pronunciation of Forumite "handles"?!
  12. The D&G advert is nice and very eye-catching but on closer inspection they're all a bit BOBFOC. Check out Leandro Becker on Google - now that's much more up my (2nd use of this expression while posting this evening, but feck it) boulevard! There's a folk singer called Seth Lakeman that I wouldn't chuck out of bed either! D
  13. I used to love The New Dewaniam (their Chicken Joypuri was right up my boulevard and have never seen the dish anywhere else) but we had several bad orders in a row - too oily, too cold, too wrong when they eventually arrived and in spite of trying to give them feedback many times to improve things, nothing ever changed. Are they worth trying again? I think they might have a new chef at The Mirash (my closest). I always considered it mediochre until recently one night when I was hungry, home alone, late back from choir and couldn't be bothered to cook, so tried them again - have not looked back since. Ganapati is still (for me) definitely the best within walking distance of home though!
  14. I liked both, but I preferred the Menier production. It had more energy and since, (in my opinion anyway) it's such an intimate piece, it just worked better in the smaller space. It also had better sets as it was a proper run and not (as originally planned) a one-night-only which is what the Haymarket started out as (even though they ended up doing 3). The CD of the New York version is worth getting if you like the show.
  15. I think you have to live in SE22! I live in SE15 and get one called - wait for it - SE15. It's a bit rubbish (full of ads and mostly useless articles) but it to has similar excerpts about the origin of street names in SE15 - also by John!
  16. Er: East Dulwich: An Illustrated Alphabetical Guide!! David
  17. There was some previous discussion on and interest in this out-of-print book (by John Beasley) here in the past (I can't make search work, so can't cross-link to the appropriate thread/s)! John tells me that the book (a slightly new edition) is now available again from Chener Books (14 Lordship Lane) at the bargain price of ?3.50 (it was more expensive when it was previously available)! In celebration of their 30th anniversary, the shop arranged to have the book reprinted. It should be available until the end of the year.
  18. I saw The Last 5 Years - both the "Notes from New York" version at the Haymarket recently and the London "premiere" at the Menier Chocolate Factory last year I think. It is a fab piece of musical theatre - but then in my eyes, Jason Robert Brown can do no wrong! Did anyone catch Parade at the Donmar last autumn? Also amazing!
  19. Ditto. Would it help if you deleted the Song Game and Word Association threads?!!! :)
  20. I've missed them too!

Now that you've explained it to me, yes. But "whore" vs "war" and Brand vs. Cleese were a bit oblique.
