  1. Hi, Looking for a reputable and reliable roofer who will come out and look at a roof which might be leaking. Probably not urgent so being knowledgable and reputable more important that being able to carry out work right away! Thank you in advance! John
  2. Hi, looking to find a tree surgeon who can prune two or three fairly small trees in East Duwlich. In the past, I've found it hard to find any who will actually come and do the jobs even after they've agreed a date so reliability is a bonus! Thanks in advance! John
  3. I would also like to recommend James Seth, who I called after one of my lighting circuits kept tripping the switch on the consumer unit. He was able to come within a couple of days and soon identified the source of the fault. I also had him replace a bathroom fan and and some light fittings, that I'd put off doing for a while. He also suggested how I could reduce my electricity bills by replacing some of the bulbs/fittings. He was quick and very reasonable, not to mention a genuinely nice guy. His number, to save you having to scroll up to find it, is 07816 160353.
  4. Southwark has a page where you can find your polling station here: http://goo.gl/GrToAW You don't need to have your polling card, but it might save time if you bring it.
  5. Sounds to me like it was on diversion, but no one bothered to put posters on the stops. The P13 shouldn't be seen as a bus service as such. More like a piece of performance art, inspired by Turkish Dolmuses perhaps. I'd never rely on it, but sometimes catch it to Streatham for the thrill of seeing whether it will turn up that day.

More is, well, more, as the adage goes. But seriously, Peckham Rye Park is a jewel of South London and deserves to be a major world tourist destination, and could be if we had some kind of simple fountain in the centre of the Sexby.
  7. I've often wondered that myself. I also feel that as a centrepiece, this 'fountain' -- really just a jet of water -- rather lets the Sexby Garden down. I wonder if we could crowdfund for a new ornamental fountain.
  8. There are also a couple of new trees on Grove Vale near Goose Green school. I think its great, and I hope Southwark plans to plant many more.
  9. Just to add to the positive replies, I've always found the reception staff helpful, friendly and incredibly calm under pressure. I've been with this practice for over ten years and have no intention of going elsewhere.
  10. This is a great idea. Would it be fun to devise some walks around East Dulwich, taking in One Tree Hill, Dulwich Park and Dulwich & Sydenham Woods. It's not quite countryside, but I'm sure we could work out a route that would take up an afternoon.
  11. Well I've just come home this evening to my ground floor flat (near the station) to find I'd had some unexpected visitors. Stole a laptop. Picked up a guitar in the bedroom but thought better of it and left it on the kitchen floor, which is a pity because it's total junk, unplayable and I've been meaning to get rid of it for ages! They got in through the back door which they forced open. Police came within the hour and they said that there have been a spate of burglaries in this area, and I know that burglaries go up around Christmas, perhaps becuase thieves know that people are likely to have new expensive goods still in their boxes. Worst thing really was the embarrassment that my flat was such a mess when I left that I didn't notice the mess the burglars had made for about 5 minutes. Luckily the two coppers were too polite to comment on the piles of washing up in the sink. Do check your doors and windows are locked when you go out, and perhaps leave a light on.
  12. If they go up, what league is above Ryman Premier?
  13. More details from the Standard. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/male-pedestrian-dies-after-being-hit-by-bus-outside-station-in-south-london-10142391.html
  14. I'm not denying that. But still costs a little shy of a couple of hundred when new.
  15. You know I might just be interested in coming to one, if it was a little less. I'm not questioning the value of your expertise, or the quality of the refreshments, only thinking along the lines of what a similar course at Morley college would cost, or at least used to cost when I did such things.
  16. Just want to say thank you to the very nice man who found my mobile in Dulwich Village earlier. When I called it from my landline, to help me find it thinking it was somewhere in the flat, he picked up, told me he was in the Crown and Greyhound and would wait until I got there. And, he wouldn't even let me buy hime a drink for saving my Christmas. Just thought that in this era of "a casual culture of cruelty" it's sometimes helpful to remember that most people are honest. And whoever you are, I've always depended on the kindness of strangers.
  17. To be honest, I think it needs some work. Whoever's hosting the site for you is running adds for other companies so people finding your site will click on them and go else where. You need to space out the text better. It's really far too crowded. Very importantly, a hotmail email address makes me think "fly-by-night" -- surely your domain registration company gives you email addresses such as [email protected] Sorry not to be more positive but I hope this helps. not2late

  19. A coffee shop with wifi would be great around here -- especially with the number of people who seem to work from home. Meanwhile, I've heard that Anatolia will not be reopening its doors, a shame since it was a good restaurant if somewhat lacking in ambience.
  20. I am so glad that this thread is just demonstrating how brilliant the local shopkeepers and their staff are and how much they appreciate them. Since I've worked in a service environment myself (not in ED), it's never ceased to amaze me how rude CUSTOMERS can be, blaming staff if they've had to queue and basically taking out whatever frustrations they have with their family/work/life on people they just see as convenient emotional punch-bags. By the way, where and what is "Cheers" -- I've lived in the area on and off for ten years and I have no idea what people are talking about! not2late
  21. I agree it's better than it being empty and then developed into flats but...another estate agent? If theres a crash in the property market ED is going to turn into a ghost town.
  22. Despite one of the posts in this thread, I'd like to say that the service in DULWICH DIY is absolutely fantastic. I alsways find them friendly, well-informed and helpful and am constantly amazed as to how they get such a huge stock into such as small space. I don't know the people who run the shop and have never really stopped for a chat but all I can say is that with any shop there will always be bad days when something goes wrong. In general, I find all the small shops in ED very pleasant to visit and feel that we are very lucky to live in one of the last places in London where so many good small businesses are able to survive -- despite escalating rents. I think it's a shame if one person has one bad experience and then uses this forum to take revenge and I hope that people don't let themselves get put off before trying out shops for themselves.
  23. I think it's generally accepted that no one gets rich running a bicycle shop. On the other hand, a good quality shop doing servicing and repairs, could be a success if it was run the right way. I think the emphasis would be on road bikes and lower-end mountain bikes. But given the population explosion in SE22, really anything aimed at children and families has to be a winner. Not only children's bikes but child seats and trailers, children's helmets. Much of this is already being done by London Recumbents but the market is hardly saturated. Not only would I be pleased to patronise a good, local, independent bicycle shop but I'd be willing to help out in any way I could. Think about it! It's not2late
  24. I would add my hearty recommendations of Herne Hill Bikes and also Brixton Cycles which is further. (I previously posted about this here.) But I think we ED cyclists should get together and set up a cycle coop of our own. There's a lovely shop going begging (ex-Browns antiques) on Upland Road. Any offers? not2late
