I'm selling a Challenge "Beacon" folding mountain bike. See below for links to photos of the bike in situ, taken earlier this morning. £100 cash on collection from Dawsons Heights end of Dunstans Road or - if you'd prefer - payment by Paypal transfer. (I'll give you my paypal details when we've agreed a sale.). NO HAGGLING, PLEASE. I bought this bike last year because it's one of the few full size bikes which I came across which folded and I have limited storage space in our flat for a full-size bike. Sadly, shortly after I bought it - and having only used it three or four times locally, I was diagnosed with a serious health condition which means that I'm unable to use the bike as I'd intended. It's been checked over by a local bike technician who confirmed that it's in very good order. I'll show you how to operate the folding mechanism when you come to collect the bike. (It's not rocket science, but there's a knack, as always with these things.) I'll throw in a sturdier-than-normal weatherproof cover - again in excellent condition. The bike currently retails via Argos for £240 so you'll be getting a bargain at the asking price. Hence NO HAGGLING PLEASE. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to go. Ill health issues. However I gather it’s been shifted to two-weekly to alternate with another two-weekly session at Skehan’s. Probably worthwhile giving the Herne a bell to check the current schedule…

The regular fortnightly traditional Irish music session will take place this Tuesday, 25th April at The Herne Tavern - corner of St Aidan's Road and Forest Hill Road. For those unfamiliar with Irish music sessions, they're informal and unrehearsed affairs. You'll hear jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, the occasional waltz and maybe a slow air. Perhaps a song or two. Musicians with a reasonable Irish music repertoire will be made very welcome. Come along and share a few tunes with us. The Herne is a very relaxed, friendly, welcoming pub with a huge beer garden and great acoustics. The new management have worked their backsides off to make it as attractive a pub as possible and - my humble opinion, for what it's worth - they've done an outstanding job. ******** While I've got your attention, a few words about two other Irish sessions which happen locally. Another fortnightly Tuesday session takes place in Skehan's, Kitto Road, Telegraph Hill. It alternates with the Herne Tavern session, so the next session at Skehan's will be on Tuesday 18th April. The Skehan's session kicks off early - at around 7:00pm. Skehan's was recently voted the best bar in London by Time Out. It's certainly one of the busiest, if last Tuesday's session there is anything to go by!! Every Thursday, there are tunes at The Blythe Hill Tavern - on Stanstead Road, corner of Blythe Hill Lane. A very well-known Irish pub which has been hosting sessions since forever (well, about 25 years anyway). The session kicks off at around 8:30pm and is always worth a visit. For the tunes and for possibly the best pint of Guinness in London! ********* And also before you shoot off, a big shout out to the folks who run The Goose Is Out. A monthly folk and acoustic gig at The Ivy House with monthly singarounds at the same venue. Check out their website at TheGooseIsOut.com and have a look at the attached flier for details of upcoming gigs. Some amazing talent in prospect...

Last night's sets from Nick Hart were simply blinding. I don't profess to know much about English folk music - Irish Trad is my thing and it's pretty much all-consuming as far as listening/playing is concerned - but when you're in the presence of someone who is simply as good as it gets, you know!

For the past few weeks, The Herne Tavern has played host to a regular Irish Traditional Music session with a regular crew and the occasional visiting guest musicians. For those who don't know it, The Herne is a welcoming pub with great acoustics for our unamplified tunes. If you're a fan of reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas and so on, please come along and enjoy a few beers. Following a successful trial run on Tuesday this week, The Herne Tavern will be playing host to another Irish Traditional Music session in its main bar this coming Tuesday, 23rd August 2022. It's in the nature of these sorts of. gatherings that you never know who will turn up. Expect some combination of fiddles, whistles, flutes, accordions, banjos, mandolins. Reels, jigs, slip jigs, polkas, slides, hornpipes, barndances, marches, the odd slow air... Maybe a song or two. From around 8:00 till last orders...

The Herne Tavern has invited players from the long-established Blythe Hill Tavern session (still going strong after 20+ years!) to play a few* tunes at The Herne tonight. As is always the case with these sorts of events, you’re never quite sure who will turn up. But expect some combination of whistles, fiddles, flutes, bodhráns, banjos, mandolins and accordions playing jigs, reels, polkas, hornpipes… The perfect soundtrack for a few summer evening drinks… 8:30 kick off. Too early to say whether this will be a regular event or just a one-off. Time will tell… *i.e. shedloads!!
