Jennifer Higgie is an Australian writer who lives in London. Previously the editor of frieze magazine, she is the author and illustrator of the children’s book There’s Not One; the editor of The Artist’s Joke and author of the novel Bedlam. Her book on women’s self-portraits, The Mirror & The Palette, was published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in March 2021. The Other Side: Women, Art and the Spirit World, was published in February 2023. @jennifer_higgie
Chantal Joffe brings a combination of insight and integrity, as well as psychological and emotional force, to the genre of figurative art. Hers is a deceptively casual brushstroke. Almost always depicting women or girls, sometimes in groups but recently in iconic portraits, Joffe’s paintings only waveringly adhere to their source – be it a photograph, magazine page or even a reflection in the mirror – instead reminding us that distortions of scale and form can often make a subject seem more real. Joffe holds an MA from the Royal College of Art and was awarded the Royal Academy Wollaston Prize in 2006. Joffe has exhibited nationally and internationally, recent venues include The Modern, Fort Worth, USA (2022); Koohouse Museum, Yangpyong, Korea (2022); The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland (2021). www.victoria-miro.com/artists/19-chantal-joffe/
María Berrío is Brooklyn-based artist, born in Bogotá, Colombia. Her large-scale works, which are meticulously crafted from layers of Japanese paper, reflect on cross-cultural connections and global migration seen through the prism of her own history. Populated predominantly by women, Berrío’s art often appears to propose spaces of refuge or safety. Berrío completed her BFA at Parsons School of Design, and her MFA at the New York School of Visual Arts. Current exhibitions include The Children’s Crusade, on view at ICA Boston until 6 August 2023, as well as group show Spirit in the Land at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University until 9 July 2023. Additionally, her work can also be seen in the public realm at the N subway stop at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn. @mariaberriostudio
